The town of Pipestone, Minnesota, county seat of Pipestone County, was first platted from 1873 to 1874, and finally incorporated on February 1, 1891.
In 1879 the Minnesota and Black Hills branch of the Sioux City and St. Paul Railroad was constructed from Heron Lake in Jackson County to Woodstock.
The keystones of the arch weigh between 7,000 and 8,000 pounds and the total weight of the arch is estimated at 15,000 pounds.

An administrative order was issued to the township March 23 requiring the township to implement its already approved 537 sewage plan and complete the project by September 1999.
Township residents, with support from some of the new supervisors, appealed the 537 revision earlier this year.

Current Minnesota law gives townships and cities the right to put a temporary stop to proposed large developments while they conduct planning and zoning that fits the needs of the community.
A recent report by the Agri-Growth Council on Minnesota’s livestock industry suggested that the corporate farm law and township powers are a barrier to increasing the growth of large corporate feedlots.
In addition, a Minnesota Department of Agriculture official told a November gathering of the Minnesota Association of Cooperatives that local governments should be “reined in” when it comes to decisions affecting large livestock operations.

While most of the township had developed a mature agricultural economy by the close of the Civil War, the Village of Tonawanda began to awaken to opportunities in the lumber trade.
It was easily loaded on lake barges at upper lake ports convenient to the forests, towed four or five barges at a time by a steam tug, then transshipped at Buffalo and the Tonawandas (North Tonawanda was incorporated as a village in 1865) for a trip on a lumber boat east along the Erie Canal.

Spanning the Mississippi River in St. Paul, Minnesota, the Wabasha Street Bridge has played a major role in the development of the downtown business district and the city's "West Side." The structure is also the state's only surviving example of a nineteenth-century cantilevered truss highway bridge.
Industrial growth was further encouraged by the Minnesota and Northwestern Railroad, which built a bridge over the Mississippi in 1886 to introduce rail service to the area.
In the spring, St. Paul submitted plans to the Minnesota State Department of Transportation in order to receive federal funds for a variety of repair work on the Wabasha Street Bridge, including the rebuilding of expansion joints in the roadway, replacing bearing units, and repairing crumbling sidewalk concrete.

More than 40 township residents, many applauding speakers critical of what they believe is a largely Hispanic work force at the new TJ Maxx warehouse, jammed Monday night's meeting of the township supervisors.
All the township sees from the operation, Attardo said, is $5 per year, per employee, or about $2,500.
Attardo said that when a Scranton lawyer representing TJ Maxx approached the supervisors two years ago, the township was promised that TJ Maxx would hire local people and pay them $8 to $10 an hour for general labor and $14 to $16 an hour for supervisors.
