President Festus Mogae told residents of Tshabong on Tuesday that the Kgalagadi District would have two elected representatives one each from the northern and the southern part in the expanded Ntlo ya Dikgosi.
He said while he was aware that there existed a number of tribes in the Kgalagadi District, it would not be possible for each of such tribes to be represented.
He explained that only sub chiefs and headmen of records were eligible to vote for whoever they wanted to represent them, adding that he wanted them to understand and be well informed about the issue.

The Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park is a relatively new park, and as I mentioned earlier, it is the first transfrontier park in Southern Africa.
We visited the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park in February 2005 and this is a nice time to visit, but it also has some drawbacks.
The maximum temperature while we were in the park was a staggering 46 degrees Celsius (115 degrees Fahrenheit) while the minimum was as high as 23 degrees Celsius (73 degrees Fahrenheit).

This was meant to be on a shoestring budget but the weather conditions on the last few days caused some havoc with the camping arrangements.
I was a bit surprised with the small amount of animals but we quickly realized that game viewing in Kgalagadi is a bit different and by the second day we simply fell in love with Kgalagadi.
Such is the nature of the people that camped at Kgalagadi that several people stopped that night at out campsite to tell swambo where they saw lion that day to give us tips as to where to go and have a look.

I have very high expectations for Kgalagadi, and its interesting to see how few visitors make it to South Africa's second largest national park.
Kgalagadi is always great and one does not neeed a 4x4 (although it is sometimes more convenient to have one).
I am using a 2WD for Kgalagadi -- I understand the South African side is accessible by 2WD (and I do not intend to venture into the Botswanan side, where I would need a 4X4).

We visited the Kgalagadi in February last year and plan to revisit the park in June.
From Nossob we saw lion (including lion on a kill), 2 sighting of cheetah (at one of them they walked right next to the car), jackals, foxes, brown hyena and many fantastic bird sightings.
The Kgalagadi is by far my most favourite destination.

Until such time as the entrance gate into Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park is completed (the amalgamation of Kalahari Gemsbok NP, South Africa and Gemsbok NP, Botswana) the following procedure still has to be followed.
Visitors visiting the Park have no need for a passport unless the Park is exited via a different gate than entry.
