The Dispatch - Serving the Lexington, NC - News   (Site not responding. Last check: )
Khaan (IPA pronunciation:, etymology: Derived from the Mongolian for 'lord') was an oviraptorid dinosaur that was found in the Djadochta Formation of Mongolia and lived in the Late Cretaceous Period, 70 million years ago.
At first, its remains were assigned to "Ingenia", but the Khaan manual structure differs sufficiently from that of "Ingenia" for it to be assigned to its own genus.
Like other oviraptorids, Khaan was probably at least partially a meat eater, feeding on small vertebrates like mammals, lizards and possibly other small dinosaurs.

Khaan's environment consisted of arid, rocky landscapes and extensive dune hills, punctuated by occasional flourishes of plant life around rivers and streams, areas it shared with other enigmosaurs like the giant Therizinosaurus, seen in the background.
Khaan itself was a member of the extremely birdlike enigmosaur group called oviraptors, and based on feather impressions from its relatives, Khaan possessed well developed wing and tail feathers, which may have been used for display.
Khaan's arms were short for a maniraptor, and like Ingenia it deviated from the theropod pattern in that it's first finger was larger than the others.
