Padres shortstop Khalil Greene has a broken bone in his right index finger that is expected to keep him out of the starting lineup for the rest of the regular season.
Greene, a leading candidate for National League Rookie of the Year honors, was injured in the fifth inning of Monday night's 9-7 victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers while fielding Antonio Perez's hard grounder.
Greene committed a throwing error on the play -- his 20th error of the season -- and was removed in the next inning.
