The round trip Manali-Leh-Khardung La- Leh - Manali should take 5 days plus 2 extra days in case of bad weather and be back in Delhi by the 30th of August.
As I ascend to TangLang La the weather still holding the same position, probably it is snowing on the side of the Pass.
The only major place in between is the Rohtang La. When we reach the top we are all in the clouds with probably 30ft of visibility.

The third was the real thing, 485 kms to Leh and then the final leg to Khardung La. This was undoubtedly going to be tough, the entire region is tough, there is very little human habitation, no petrol pumps, etc. for a stretch of 370 kms, high mountain passes and cold weather.
Sarchu is beyond Baralacha La (altitude 4800 m) and 107 km from Keylong.
It was 11:15 by the time I got the permit and that meant that we could have a go at Khardung La on the 25th itself!.

The road is nowhere near the 18,380 feet/5602m the indians claim it is. In fact, it's lower than the Tanglang La which is the last pass on the road in from Manali, which by my reckoning puts it outside the top ten highest roads.
It's nothing new that Khardung la is lower than 5.602m.
Khardung La is southeast of Nia La, and it has solid contours.

Hard long climb to the Baralacha La Pass but the rewards are great as you travel through this wild and scenic country.
We start by ascending the second highest pass on the Manali-Leh highway up to Lachalang La. The road here is likely to be the worst of the trip with a distinct lack of tarmac, it's very gravelly and there are many loose stones.

Just under 40 km north of Leh by road (and a mere 15 km as the crow flies) on the way to the Nubra Valley is the Khardung La, which claims to be the world's highest road pass at 18,380 ft (5,602 m).

Since I have been skating for the past 13 years, and I do competitive speed skating and also play roller hockey and have won medals in the nationals, I thought of covering the uphill distance of 39.5 km from Leh bazaar to this high pass on roller skates.
South Pullu to Khardung La was a distance of 14 km and a climb of about 3,000 ft. It was the toughest section.
On the pass the temperature was -8°C. I was extremely tired and thirsty.

Present around the campsite at Tso Kar (at the spring opposite to Thukse village), where 2 juveniles were seen from 10th to 12th, with 2 adults also there on 11th and at least one on 12th.
Moreover, 10 females/juveniles were noted north of Taglang La on 13th and 7 males along the Leh-Manali Road near Lachung La on 20th.
Unidentified Marmots were commonly observed in upper Rumbak Valley, in the Changtang area, at Khardung La and along the Leh-Manali road, mostly at altitudes above 4500m.

 Highest Motorable Pass
Contrary to general public opinion, misinformed by Guinness World Records, a local indicator and countless websites, the world's highest motorable road pass is NOT the "5682m" or "5602m" Khardung La, NE of Leh in the Indian Himalaya.
There is surely a higher motorable pass than Khardung La, by any definition, at Suge La, 100km west of Lhasa.
According to a Chinese source, a jeep has been driven up a 5760m pass shown on road maps at Bodpo La, 32.3°/79.0° (if you can read Chinese see here), but access to this area for non-Chinese nationals may be restricted.

In front of the 22000+ ft. Siachen Glaciers, 18380ft high Khardung La pass appeared small and insignificant.

To describe today it sounds for all the world as if I was taking a flight - from 11,000 ft. I rode up to 18,380 ft., down to 10,000 ft and then turned went back up and down again.
That in short was my day-trip over Khardung La (Khardung Pass) to the Nubra Valley - up, down, up, down across the highest moterable road in the world and to altitudes which are 2/3 of what a 747 cruises at!
The ride up was cold to put it mildly as I had left quite early and the sun simply refused to break though the clouds.
