 Khazad-dum / Moria
The word Hadhod, or Hadhodrim, was a name used for the Dwarves in an attempt to approximate the sounds of the word Khazad in the Elvish tongue.
After Khazad-dum was taken over by evil creatures it was called the Mines of Moria or simply Moria - the Black Pit or Black Chasm.
Khazad-dûm means "Mansion of the Dwarves" from khazad, the Dwarves' name for their own race, and dûm meaning "excavations, halls."

KHAZAD - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
KHAZAD was presented at the first NESSIE workshop in 2000, and, after some small changes, was selected as a finalist in the project.
KHAZAD is named after Khazad-dûm, the fictional dwarven realm in the writings of J.
KHAZAD makes heavy use of involutions as subcomponents; this minimises the difference between the algorithms for encryption and decryption.

Camellia (cipher) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The cipher was developed jointly by Mitsubishi and NTT in 2000, and has similar design elements to earlier block ciphers ( E2 and MISTY1) from these companies.
In cryptography, Camellia is a block cipher that has been evaluated favorably by several organisations, including the European Union 's NESSIE project (a selected algorithm), and the Japanese CRYPTREC project (a recommended algorithm).
It is a Feistel cipher with either 18 rounds (if the key is 128 bits) or 24 rounds (if the key is 192 or 256 bits).

 Encyclopedia: Block cipher
In cryptography, a block cipher is a type of symmetric key cipher which operates on groups of bits of a fixed length, termed blocks.
This is in contrast to stream ciphers which encrypt each bit of the plaintext individually before moving on to the next.
Lucifer is generally considered to be the first civilian block cipher, developed at IBM in the 1970s based on work done by Horst Feistel.

 The Khazad Block Cipher
The rationale for this is that a considerable safety margin is taken with respect to all known attacks.
The S-box and the diffusion matrix were chosen in a way which guarantees that encryption and decryption are the same operation except in the round subkeys.
The current, final form of the cipher was "tweaked" to make it more efficiently implementable in hardware.

Also the different cipher types (digest, compress..) could be seperated into own ksets/directories, but this would make the crypto/proc.c code worse.
crypto/proc.c was converted to use the subsystem internal rwlock/list for its iteration of ciphers.
This was done by embedding a kobject in struct crypto_alg (include/linux/crypto.h) and using a kset/subsystem instead of the currently used list (crypto_alg->cra_list was removed, as it shouldn't be needed anymore).

This also could signal the immenient inclusion of other ciphers into the in-kernel crypto suite like Anubis and hashing functions like Whirlpool (both of which are by the same people as Khazad, and are also patent and royalty free), as well as other NESSIE candidates.
Not commented upon by Linus is that the Khazad cipher has also been added to the in-kernel crypto suite.
This cipher is similar in many ways to Rijndael (AES), is also patent and royalty free, and has been submitted to NESSIE as a candidate.
