The khopesh (khopsh) was an ancient Egyptian weapon which first became popular beginning with the period when upper and lower Egypt were united under one pharaoh.
The khopesh design was devastatingly effective and changed the development of edged weapons around the known world.
The falchion design of the middle ages evolved from the khopesh design via the kopis; the saber is the most recent descendant of the khopesh concept.

The Avengers are finely crafted khopesh swords made entirely of green steel taken from the pits of the Netherworld.
Their hilts are longer than that of most khopesh swords, nearly as long as the hilt of a bastard sword and the guards are forged into a coiled cobra with the blade itself springing from the snakes open mouth.
While wielding the Avengers (in any of their forms) the wielder is considered to be proficient with the weapon in question (khopesh, longspear, dagger, javelin, etc.) regardless of whether he actually has the necessary weapon proficiencies.

"Khopesh" is the Egyptian term for a style of Canaanite sickle sword which was adopted by the Egyptians during the New Kingdom period of that country’s history, when Upper and Lower Egypt were united under one pharaoh.
In either case, the heavy spine of the weapon, with its center of gravity along the blade instead of close to the hilt, along with its ability to cleave through both armor and flesh easily, made the khopesh the most effective weapon of the period.
The saber, with its long, curved blade, sharpened along the outer edge of the curve, is the most recent descendant of the khopesh concept.

If Goliath decides to change his stance and use the khopesh with both hands, a not-yet used javelin is considered lost.
In case the melee ends with an even result, David can immediately flee (don't forget to roll the die for deduction of movement and that a roll of a 6 means he cannot move).

Nonetheless, i agree that it's not gonna be a whole lot like a khopesh--a tapering concave inward-facing curved blade, perpindicular to a mid-length handle isn't likely to be used very much like a convex curved blade with an inverse taper on the end of [and parallel to] a short handle.
My understanding is that the design rationale behind the khopesh was (1) greater weight at the tip for more powerful blows and (2) curved blade to make it a more deadly slashing weapon.
I use 1d6 20/x3, 5lb, slashing (same as a Handaxe) with a Noble's Khopesh being 2d4 20/x3, 7lb, slashing (as a Battleaxe with a slightly higher average).
