2006 Kia Sorento - Ratings & Reviews - Dan Jedlicka - MSN Autos   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-03)
The attractively priced Kia Sorento has many of the best features of midsize sport-utility vehicles, and is the first fairly large sport ute from this South Korean automaker.
The Sorento is about the size of smaller midsize sport utes such as the Jeep Grand Cherokee and Toyota Highlander, rather than larger ones in that category such as the Chevrolet TrailBlazer and Ford Explorer.
The Sorento is no lightweight at 4,057 to 4,255 pounds, so fuel economy is mediocre: an estimated 15 mpg in the city and 18 on highways with 4-wheel drive and 15 and 20 with rear-drive.

The Sorento is the right height, tall enough for kids to have an enhanced view from the back seat but not so towering that toddlers need help getting in.
Given all this, I was about as trusting of the Sorento as a woman who finds foreign lipstick stains on her husband's shirts.
On curves, the Sorento felt nimble and controllable without lots of braking, a pleasing contrast to some SUVs that feel like they throw their weight from side to side every time you turn the steering wheel.

2006 Kia Sorento SUV Review - Edmunds.com   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-03)
A 192-horsepower, 3.5-liter V6 propels every Kia Sorento, and buyers have their choice of two-wheel drive (rear-wheel drive, that is) and four-wheel drive.
However you equip it, the Sorento has adequate power in most situations, though with a curb weight of over 4,200 pounds in 4WD form, don't be surprised if it feels a bit taxed when you load up the family for a road trip.
Overall, the 2006 Kia Sorento is a well-rounded effort that, apart from its thirst for fuel, has a lot going for it.

A compass/altimeter/barometer/thermometer is fun to monitor; the audio head unit is designed for countries where the driver sits on the left, so the main volume/frequency controls are too far away and the rest of the buttons are too small to easily hit.
The Sorento has not yet been crash tested, but it has plenty of crash protection features, including tilt-adjustable head restraints on the front seats, pretensioner/load limiter equipped seat belts and airbags which deploy at a variable rate, determined by the size of a front seat occupant.
The Kia Sorento shapes up strongly in terms of performance, equipment and off-road ability, but it is let down by poorly tuned suspension and uncomfortable seats, both of which you have to live with on every drive.

2003 Kia Sorento Car Reviews - The Car Connection
Kia has elected to build a truck-based SUV whose rigid ladder frame gives it the ruggedness to tackle fairly significant off-road challenges.
The EPA rates Sorento at 15 mpg city, 18 mpg highway, whereas the Liberty posts 16/20; and both of these are shamed by the CR-V's 22 mpg city, 26 mpg highway figures (albeit from a 2.4-liter in-line four making 160 hp).
The Sorento has the looks to turn heads, the power to be credible, the versatility to be truly "sport/utilitarian." It even has an almost over-eager warranty of five years or 60,000 miles (ten years/100,000 miles for the powertrain alone), and includes five years of roadside assistance.

In my service book from Kia for my 03 sorento with V6 engine it states inspect at 30K (replace at 60K) also noted is it's not required for Sorentos in Calif. This should send a message that the 60K change is just a real waste of money.
If Kia has to back up a broken timing belt without it being changed at 40k in Cal., but doesn't have to in the other 49 states and rest of the world, something is radically wrong here.
I had reported that Kia was still using the 40k mark to change timing belts as this was still in the documentation I checked.
