Bukidnon is a large province (8,294 square km) containing several plateaus that are separated by deep canyons and three major river valleys --the Pulangi, Tagoloan, and Cagayan.
Bukidnon is the only province in Mindanao that does not have a coast line, it being in the north central part of the island.
For purposes of modern classification, lowlanders of the plateau are Bukidnons and higlanders are Manobos.

Heralding the festival was the "Piniliyapan Hu Bukidnon" or "A Glimpse of Bukidnon" Friday evening, which showcased the traditionally intertwined cultures of Bukidnon's seven ethnic hill tribes: Tala-andig, Higaonon, Umayamnon, Monobo, Tigwahanon, Matigsalug and Bukidnon.
Meanwhile, Kibawe municipality captured the first prize in the street dancing contest, while the second and third prizes went to the municipalities of Talakag and Malaybalay.
"Kaamulan" is an indigenous Bukidnon term for "gathering" for any purpose--a datuship ritual, a wedding ceremony, a thanksgiving festival during harvest time, a peace pact, or all of these together.

Bukidnon provincial health officer Dr. Inocente Daguhoy admitted that a woman who works in a Hong Kong private company is now being isolated and now being attended by her own family members.
He said this Wednesday night as he confessed that the Kibawe Hospital and all other hospitals and clinics in his province is not capable of handling a patient probably infected with this virus.
But because she was from Hong Kong, one of the Sars-infested countries, they have immediately requested her to be quarantined at her own home in Kibawe, Bukidnon.

During the policy discussion on environmental policies and indigenous peoples rights held in Kibawe, Bukidnon, tribal leader Manuel Dalas said that his tribe was not against development, but this should not be at the expense of their livelihood and culture.
Nasavaka'n Tarigunay't Bukidnon du't Kalindaan (Natabuk), a federation of various Pulangiyon communities opposing the project, said in a statement that Pulangi V would displace 2,280 families of the Manobo-Pulangiyon tribe and 6,700 families of non-indigenous people.
It claimed the project would submerge 17 barangays in seven municipalities in Bukidnon and Cotabato, destroy 78,000 hectares of land, of which almost 40,000 hectares are ancestral domain of the Manobo-Pulangiyon tribe, and submerge the burial ground of Mamalo, the most sacred ground of the Manobos and the ancestor of the Subanen tribe.

Likewise, a total of 3,468,151 textbooks were procured for the region from June 2001 to June 2003 resulting in a 1:1 textbook-pupil ratio in Grades 1 to 6, and in the 1st and 2nd Year High School, except for Filipino 3 and English 3 (Grade 3).

During a public hearing held at the Kibawe municipal gymnasium recently, government officials said the project would be called South Bukidnon Bioenergy, Inc. (SBBI).
Juan Miguel Zubiri (3rd District, Bukidnon) authored the Bio-Fuels bill in Congress proposing a mix of five percent ethanol and 95 percent gasoline within two years after the Bio-Fuel bill is passed, increasing the proportion to 10 percent by the fourth year.
Bukidnon, a major produce of sugar and sugarcane, is one of the identified areas for the ethanol program.

Kibawe Mayor Ligan promised the crowd that the Sangguniang Bayan will meet the same day to deliberate on the issues and that they will make a final decision within five days, making the crowd very unhappy.

Director Estudillo appealed to the provincial government of Bukidnon to look for a site for the relocation of 97 families, who are residing at "very high risk areas" in Magsaysay.
