KICK AXE is arguably one of Canada's finest hard rock acts from the 80's era.
Having been a KICK AXE fan in the '80s, I remember being somewhat disappointed when they disbanded, and I had always hoped that there would be some sort of a reunion at some point.
However, the rest of the album is pretty much a lot of the same kind of slow to mid-paced average-sounding material, which really did not grab me as much as the other songs.

Kick (album) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Kick is an album by the Australian rock and roll group INXS, released in 1987.
It is their best-selling album to date, selling more than 10 million copies in the US alone as of 2005.
In 2002, a remastered version of the album was released that included four previously unreleased tracks.

Kick out the Jams - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Kick Out the Jams was the first album by Detroit protopunkers MC5, released in 1969.
Its title track was covered by The Presidents of the United States on their eponymous debut album in 1995, and by Rage Against the Machine on their album Renegades (2000) The song was also covered by Jeff Buckley and released on his post humous Legacy Edition of Grace on the bonus CD of unreleased song.
The album, along with fellow Detroit band the Stooges' first two albums, was so ahead of its time that it could not be classified under any genre until after the punk movement traced its lineage back to it.

The album, replacing singer George Criston with Gary Langen who is bassist Victor's brother, sounds closer to Billy Squier circa the Don't Say No album than a bonafide heavy metal outing.
In general, the new Kick Axe album has no bad songs, but could have benefited from a culling of tracks from the album's fourteen to ten and a slightly more toned guitar sound.
The album targets the sound espoused by the softer side of Iron Maiden, Queensr├┐che, Billy Squier and Rush and, the title track and album's name notwithstanding, pours over songs with a heavy rock bent.

MC5: Kick out the Jams - PopMatters Music Review
Kick out the Jams is eight songs, comprising 40 minutes that embody all that was the late 1960s: Rebellion, anarchy, psychedelia, sex, drugs, and of course aggressive rock 'n' roll.
The song is somewhat incongruent with the rest of the album, but it is an appropriate reminder of what the MC5 and many of their contemporaries were all about: expansion of the mind through the power of music.
It is one of those rare albums that captured the essence of a moment; a set of songs meant to be played loud and proud.

The rest of Kick, especially the strutting "Guns in the Sky" and the groovy "Wild Life", is of similar quality; all of it is marked by the band's Stones-y guitars and angular, funk-tinged rhythms.
Okay, this album's omnipresence (it produced no less than five charting singles out of 12 songs) on radio and television for over a year and a half--alongside singer Michael Hutchence's mass media anointment as THE premier rock and roll sex symbol of the late '80s--makes it difficult to hear KICK as simply an album.
INXS never seemed to be able to reproduce the quality of "Kick" on later albums, but this record remains one of the high points of commercial rock music from the 1980's.

Metal News - Kick Axe To Release First Album Since 1986 ( Metal Underground . com )
Kick Axe, one of the best and most successful heavy rock bands to burst out of Canada in the 1980s, returns with "Kick Axe IV," their first album of new material in 18 years.
Kick Axe was still not entirely happy with its lineup, and national advertisements resulted in Milwaukee native George Criston earning the lead vocalist slot, and he relocated to Vancouver in 1982.
Awareness of Kick Axe never waned: the first two albums were reissued on CD to brisk sales and positive reviews; copies of 'Rock The World' have sold on eBay for $150 (U.S. dollars); and several fan-created web sites have been started, including one in the Czech Republic (www.kickaxe.wz.cz).

 Saigon Kick
Saigon Kick's debut album is the first showcase of the considerable songwriting skills of Jason Bieler, distinctive vocal range of Matt Kramer, powerful riffs, tight rhythm section, harmonies, and musical diversity.
The album begins with the tribal rhythms of the "Intro" which leads into the heavy, riff and synth driven "Russian Girl", an infectious number with good bass work in the chorus and passionate lyrics, followed by "Killing Ground", a heavy but somewhat generic and stale riff-rocker.
Elsewhere, the chorus of "Nearer" is a nice anthemic breather to close the album off on, and the hard pop of "Solitary Jerk" has a cool refrain with interesting keyboard embellishments.

Kick Axe 2004 is very melodic hard rock with no weak points, catchy guitar riffs and melodies, the production is great, sound is impressive.
To compare Kick Axe 2004 with previous three albums I think this album is on the same quality level as 1984 "Vices".
This album is NOT a paltry stab at former glory as most bands might try to pull off with girl-chasing hooks, party party ditties, meaningless drivel, 4/4 timing, drum synth, 50% power ballad content, filler filler filler and a 5-string guitar...

The band kicks, with a violently loud psychedelic assault that is primal metal thunder with a dash of avant-jazz, highlighted by the distorted dual guitar madness of Wayne Kramer and Fred "Sonic" Smith.
Kick Out The Jams is an important historical document, since the MC5 were also alleged inspirations for many punk combos.

The Daily Vault Album Reviews : Kick
While INXS had made a name for themselves in the States prior to the release of this album, it was Kick that catapaulted them into superstardom -- and over a decade later, it's still very tasty.
It also proved to be the beginning of the end of the glory days for the band; their follow-up release X would only spawn one top 10 hit in "Suicide Blonde," and their fates continued to spiral downward from there -- in some cases, undeservedly so.
It's truly a shame that INXS was never able to match the success they enjoyed with Kick -- there's a good reason why this album is considered the best of their career, and is definitely worth investing in.

When Saigon Kick was originally introduced to me, I mistakenly placed them in the ranks of other acts that thrived within the 80s/90s rock scene.
Within the ranks of their works is a little bit of everything, from the angst and rage felt by legions of walking through their mundane lives to the heartfelt adoration that seeing someone close to you so often brings about.
It is these lilies of the field they've planted throughout albums I would highly recommend (The Lizard, Water, Devil in the details) that keep me listening, something they showcase in even this, their earliest work.

INXS : Kick - Listen, Review and Buy at ARTISTdirect
Where the follow-ups to "What You Need" made barely a ripple on the pop charts, Kick spun off four Top Ten singles, including the band's only American number one, "Need You Tonight." Kick crystallized all of the band's influences -- Stones-y rock & roll, pop, funk, contemporary dance-pop -- into a cool, stylish dance/rock hybrid.
More than that, really, Kick is an impeccably crafted pop tour de force, the band succeeding at everything they try.
Even without the band's sense of style, the flawless songcraft is intoxicating, and it's what makes Kick one of the best mainstream pop albums of the '80s.
