Kick out the Jams is eight songs, comprising 40 minutes that embody all that was the late 1960s: Rebellion, anarchy, psychedelia, sex, drugs, and of course aggressive rock 'n' roll.

No one can argue with the fact that the MC5 were one of the 1960s' best live bands, and given their relatively modest output -- just three albums, really, plus a smattering of dubiously recorded live CDs released after their 1972 breakup -- any addition to the catalogue is welcome.

A 2003 interview with counterculture activist and former MC5 manager John Sinclair included as an extra on the "Kick Out the Jams" DVD recalls one of those confrontations, when the MC5 laid down a musical challenge that Eric Clapton and his group Cream were unable to equal.
Loren created "Kick Out the Jams" in 1999, combining vintage Super 8 and 16 mm silent films shot by Leni Sinclair with music gleaned from bootleg recordings of live MC5 shows.

However, what really makes Get Shallow stand out is the New Wave-ish bridge combined with the compelling chorus of "How did you get so shallow?" Likewise, Burnt Sienna begins with a jangly guitar riff that recalls the work of Rick Springfield.

I think that these guys have a lot to offer and I would recommend this album to anyone who wants a solid sound at a very good price.
While the rock tracks on this CD are good, they are not what make the album for me. In my opinion it is the slower, more emotional tracks that really sets `Kick Out The Jams` apart.
MC5 have some very worthy stuff to say, and this album is an excellent vehicle for it.

I was expecting a documentary on the history of the band, but in reality it is a series of still photographs and movies with a soundtrack of live performances by the MC5.
Regarding Kick Out the Jams, I learned from this frighteningly comprehensive website that the band wasn't happy with the performance.
I own 3 recordings: Kick out the Jams and High Times on Vinyl, and, best of all, a cassette-only compilation called Babes in Arms.
