NOVELL: Cool Solutions: What is the "kicker" in Linux?
The "Kicker" Panel is the KDE equivalent of the windows "System Tray".
I often read / hear the word "kicker" in the Linux and KDE forums.

 JLP's Blog: JLP's KDE 3.5 Previews - Part 1
I hope the KDE team also improved kicker's transparency capabilities, as the Tray on my 3.4.1 system has this bad habit of not starting properly when transparency is enabled (it's fine after some kind of refresh event takes place).
KDE will now also show a special dialog of possible actions when some media is inserted.
Every year, during the summer holidays, I regularly download the source code of the new version of KDE desktop that is in the works and compile and test it.

 mosfet.org
KDE developer Matthias Elter has been putting a lot of work into the new KDE2 panel, Kicker, recently and has just merged his version with the main one in CVS.
KDE is the leading desktop environment for Linux systems based on systems that install it as the default interface for your computer as well as downloads from various sites such as Tucows.
KDE is also very portable and can be easily used on unixes such as BSD, Solaris, SCO, HP/UX, SGI, and Digital Unix as well as Linux.

  Taskbar v2 (flat + thumbnails) KDE-Apps.org
The next time I restart KDE or kill/restart kicker the options I set before are gone, I have to set all options manually each time taskbar-v2 is added to the kicker panel...
You probably need to restart kicker after adding the taskbar.

Kontact Artwork News, Interviews with Dariusz Arciszewski and David Vignoni
David needs no introduction, as his Nuvola iconset is the highest rated iconset in kde-look.org, and he is already an KDE contributor (he developed icons to the KDE Edutainment Project, KMess, and other icon themes for KDE, like Lush and SKY).
Nuvola icons are also becoming default icons for many applications, like KDE-Edu apps.
Of course these problems are more with the kicker than with that kicker theme you recommended, so once they are fixed it would be more useable.

Interview with Shamyl Zakariya on SlicKer development :: Tinyminds.org :: Bringing users closer to Linux
SlicKer aims to someday replace Kicker in KDE (ed's note: Kicker is the taskbar at the bottom of the screen) with its own more taskoriented approach.
A comment should be made that Shamyl also developed the MKUltra window decoration for KDE, which currently holds second place on KDE-LOOK in it's catagory.

 aseigo: Plasma
a new applet library, which will amalgamate refactored classes from libkdeui, libkickermain and superkaramba will provide applets with access to system information, web services and of course the usual wealth of standard KDE facilities.
and not just kicker, but kdesktop and superkaramba as well.
the three "gumdrops" of coloured plasma represent the fusion of kicker, desktop and superkaramba as well as the cohesion of Javascript, Python and Ruby bindings (the Orange glob is C++, of course) as well as the combination of technical excellence, artistic beauty and usability.

 SynCE-KDE
As the name suggests it has first been an applet for kicker, the KDE panel but as time goes by the application-type changed.
RAKI is also working but the KDE addressbook synchronizer is not due to massive changes in the KABC API.
PDAMirror has been renamed to KCEMirror as this name integrates nicely into the KDE name-schema.

The Answer Gang: LG 114: icewm light weight desktop
This allows things like the kde kicker and gnome's taskbar to be handled correctly from the window manager that will run 'inside' of the KDE or GNOME environment.
The first string after "prog" is the 'hover label' for the icon, the second one is the 16x16 XPM image to be used, and the third one is the program to execute.
My favorite is "coolicon", which is available as a standard Debian package; it does not come with particularly exciting icons - but you can use any XPM image as an icon, and it's very flexible, powerful, and lightweight.

 Baghira - Help
If you want the baghira kicker applet (with the apps name) you must remove the kicker menuapplet and add the baghira one.
The QT/KDE effects do not really work with the baghira translucency engine.

Interview with Shamyl Zakariya on SlicKer development
tinyminds.org is featuring an interview with Shamyl Zakariya on the development of SlicKer, an alternative to KDE's Kicker panel.
I was a little bit surprised, when I read that Shamyl Zakariya is developing a kicker alternative.
Shamyl seems to haves a rare and valuable mix of skills, both graphic designer and programmer.

Waldo has been involved pretty much in all levels in KDE's code, from Konqueror to kdelibs, to games and Kicker.
OSNews is pleased to host today an exclusive interview with Waldo Bastian, the well known KDE developer and SuSE employee.
OSNews really is the best source of information I know of on different operating systems for people who are technically oriented and for those without a lot of technical knowledge because most articles provide some background on topics discussed.

 SuperKaramba - muesli's Blog
Right now, I'm trying to install SlickBar for SuperKaramba, a neat kicker replacement, which is based on SuperKaramba.
Lurking around the Web, I - once again *g*- found a nice KDE eyecandy tool: SuperKaramba.
I know Muesli has talked about it, but I have to, too.

But I'm, growing VERY tired of the hand-holding and the broken RPM builds.

 KDE Traffic
And in our first installment, Martin Koller provided a patch that adds a "Today" button to the bottom area of the datepicker, and asked someone to commit if it was OK. Stephan Kulow responded that is wasn't ok, that it looked bad in the kicker while it may look good in korganizer.
The thread appeared to die, until it was taken up again in a separate thread which I'll also cover here, titled "Re:www", which was a carry over from a kde-cvs commit, where Neil Stevens asked,
Martin Koller, of course, agreed with Reinhold, but provided a patch that moved the button to the left side of the input field.

Kopete: instant messaging for KDE Badopi
Through KDE hispano, and thanks to Pedro Jurado, I was made aware of Kopete's 0.7 release.
Kopete can be docked into Kicker's system tray (like Klipper).
Also, I never said it should be impossible to configure Kopete to act like you think most people in the world expect (I think a minority expects that, but that is a different matter).
