 | | Though more laid back than usual, like many of Kitano’s films, ‘Kids Return’ has it’s moments of brutal, unexpected violence, but they are important in the context of the story that is unfolding – there are no scenes of extras dying in bloody hails of bullets here. |
 | | Unlike Kitano’s earlier output, where lengthy scenes of little dialogue are sometimes shot from a fixed viewpoint that often disrupt the narrative, the camera in ‘Kids Return’ is far more restless, particularly in the scenes shot in the boxing ring which have a visceral realism and brutality. |
 | | To my knowledge it has never been given a theatrical release which is a shame because, for all it’s semi forgotten status, ‘Kid’s Return’ is something of a masterpiece and ranks amongst the very best of his films. |
