Kiel probe - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
A Kiel probe is a device for measuring pressure in fluid dynamics.
It is a variation of a Pitot probe where the inlet is protected by a "shroud".
Unlike the Pitot probe, it is not sensitive to changes in yaw angle, and is therefore useful when the probe's alignment with the flow direction is variable or imprecise.

Five-hole probes were also used to measure the static and stagnation pressures radially across the flow duct from the outside tunnel liner to the hub.
The five-hole probes was used in conjunction with a strongback support which spanned the duct from tunnel liner to hub.
Considering the probe size (0.066 inches),the spatial resolution of the probe measurement varies from 0.344 degrees at 4.8% span to 0.185 degrees at 95.2% span.

HASI is composed of 4 subsystems: the triaxial accelerometer (ACC), the deployable boom system (DBS), the stem (STUB) carrying the temperature sensors, a Kiel probe pressure inlet, an acoustic sensor and the data processing unit (DPU).
TEM, PWA and the Kiel probe of PPI are mounted outside the Huygens probe, The BOOMs are stowed under the thermal shield of the Probe during the interplanetary cruise and are deployed at the beginning of the descent in Titan's atmosphere.
ACC is located on the Huygens probe experiment platform at the center of gravity in the entry configuration.

The chief diagnostic tool is an azimuthal probe array consisting of 64 probes with fully parallel data acquisition.
Furthermore, to study the dynamics in direction parallel to the magnetic field, fluctuation data is recorded by an axial probe array consisting of 16 Langmuir probes.
The crosscorrelation between the azimuthal and axial probe array signals yields valuable insight into coupling phenomena parallel and perpendicular to the magnetic field.

The mechanically robust heat probe is designed for the operation in a pogo-style mode with a wide application range from 6000m deep sea trenches with mostly soft sediments to the upper continental slope where sediments are often sandy and difficult to penetrate.
The heat probe is constructed in the classical 'violin bow' design, with 22 thermistors distributed over a total length of 6m in 0.23m intervals mounted inside an oil filled hydraulic tube which is attached to the strength member.
Inclination and acceleration of the probe is measured also with a 1 sec sample rate to monitor the penetration process into the sediments and potential disturbances during the measurement period while the probe sits in the sediment.

The servo accelerometer has a switchable range (high and low resolution) and is sensitive to acceleration in the X axis (the Huygens probe spin axis) while the three piezoresistive accelerometers are each sensitive to the acceleration in one of the X, Y, or Z axes.
The STUB consists of a stem fixed on the Huygens ring and carrying the TEM sensors, the Kiel probe and the ACU sensor of PWA outside the Huygens probe.
The STUB is under the thermal shield of the Huygens probe during cruise phase and insures that the sensors are appropriately located and oriented with respect to the gas flow during the measurement.

The Huygens probe, given its name by the Dutch physicist and astronomer Christian Huygens, who first discovered Titan, landed on the surface of Titan at 11:30 UTC 14 January 2005 and provided in-situ measurements of the atmosphere and the surface of Titan.
The surrounding Kiel tube makes the Pitot probe reading insensitive to changes in the flow attack angle up to 45 degrees which is quite sufficient for the purpose.
The Kiel probe is located at the end of a stub on the outer rim of the Huygens probe.

(precisely, the isoexcitation points in case of a double excitation probe or the isoemission points in case of a double emission probe) are the wavelengths where the fluorescence is independent of the indicated analyte (ion) concentration.
4 The Stokes-shift of a fluorescent probe is defined by the difference between the wavelength of its absorption peak (Figure 2) and the wavelength of its emission peak (Figure 1).
However, the experimental conditions – in particular the spectral characteristics of the available filter set and/or dichroic mirror – are often not optimised for the ratiometric probe in use or the Stokes-shift of the indicator is too small for reliably separating fluorescence emission from excitation light.
