Kigoma, as well as being Tanzania's major port on the lake, is also the regional capital, but it did not gain this prominence until the completion of the railway line during the early 20th century.
Kigoma has also been a centre for refugees for the last decade or more from the wars in the neighbouring countries of Congo, Burundi and Rwanda.

Kigoma Town is the largest community on the shores of Lake Tanganyika; situated on the extreme north of the lake and it is the closest to both Gombe and Mahale National Parks.
Gombe Stream National Park is situated 16 kms north of Kigoma, in western Tanzania, covering only 52 sq km (20sq miles) it is a narrow strip of mountainous country bounded in the east by the crest of the eastern Rift Valley escarpment, and in the west by Lake Tanganyika.
Kigoma is the home of the HA tribe, descendants of the Bantu peoples who came into the area from West Africa They lived here for many centuries until Arab traders from Zanzibar began in the early 19th century to visit Ujiji to collect slaves.

A few minutes south of Kigoma by whatever conveyance you might catch is the small community of Ujiji, known to many as the spot where Livingstone and Stanley met so many years ago in the heart of then "darkest" Africa.

This primate sanctuary was made famous by Jane van Lawick Goodall in her African classic, “In The Shadow Of Man.” This is a laidback and fairly attractive little town, located at the foot of a hill and characterised by grove after grove of mango trees.
It was to Kigoma that the legendary steamer, the MV Liemba, was brought by rail by the Germans during World War I, assembled there, and used as a military expedition ship against the British forces in what is today Zambia.

I have another tank setup for breeding a different pair of Kigomas, the ones I want to move are extras that I plan on switching out with the breeding pair to vary the bloodline, if they decide to breed.
The WC kigomas are around 4" ro 5" and heavily spotted and the dwarfs are only around 2" with very few irregular spots.
I have tank that is setup for breding the kigomas that I have pair in there right now, just trying to condition the female, but she is not eating well.
