The factory, to be built on land measuring 262,000 square meters in the town of Kikuyo, is set to produce polarizing sheet film for LCDs in late 2006, the company said in a statement.
Fuji Photo (49014901)(FUJIY), the world's second-largest filmmaker after Eastman Kodak, produces about an 80 percent share of the world market for light-controlling polarizing sheet film used to produce LCDs, reports said.
Fuji Photo selected the site in Kumamoto due to its proximity to Asia, where demand is strong, the company said.

Fuji Photo Film Co. said Monday it plans to invest more than 100 billion yen to build a factory in Kumamoto Prefecture to manufacture parts for liquid crystal display panels.
The company will start building the factory to produce polarizing sheet film, a core part of LCDs, in the town of Kikuyo possibly next spring.
The factory, to be built on a 262,000-sq.-meter site, is expected to become operational in late 2006 with several hundred new employees, Fuji Photo officials said.
