	Kikyo - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
		Kikyou speculated that if the jewel were used to turn Inuyasha into a human, it would be purified and vanish, which would free Kikyou from her duty to protect the jewel and she could then live as a normal woman with Inuyasha.
		Kagome for Inuyasha's sake agrees to help Kikyō, and she is able to survive Naraku's shōki and continue on; the shoki infection was stopped for a small amount of time but later resurfaced since Naraku's demonic powers went beyond the spiritual powers of both Kagome and Kikyo.
		As a result, Kikyou's shouki wound reopened and widened and she had to distance herself from Kohaku to avoid corrupting the jewel, while at the same time, she had to be within a certain distance to protect Kohaku with her barrier which ensures the purity of the shard.

	Kikyou
		Kikyou told Inuyasha that the sacred Tama that she was protecting could be used to make him a human, which was something he originally did not want until he had fallen for her.
		Kikyou, however, had been dead for 50 years already until the youkai, Kijo Urasue attacked her village and stole Kikyou's ashes along with some burial ground.
		Using her powerful magic, she re-created Kikyou's body in the hopes that Kikyou would get the Shikon shards (which were incidently shattered by Kagome) but, to the old youkai's dismay Kikyou's soul had not returned to her body.

		Kikyou, however, lands at his feet (apparently unconscious), and we see Naraku absorb the kodokuu in order to obtain his "new body." Naraku thinks that Kikyou destroyed the seal so that he could get his new body, but Kagome "corrects" him on that, saying she only did it so that Inuyasha didn't get absorbed, too.
		Kikyou reveals that she knows he was formerly Onigumo, and Naraku explains to us that Onigumo, a severely wounded mountain thief, who was taken care of by Kikyou (and Kaede) and hidden in a cave, gave his body and evil soul to youkai willingly--this created Naraku.

		Now, in Episode 49, the resurrected and still-angry Kikyou is intent on killing Inuyasha. Kikyou's younger (now physically older) sister Kaede, however, has realized that, until Kikyou's soul finds peace, she will never return to Kagome's body.
		Somehow, Kagome calls back Kikyou's soul into herself. There is a moment of calm; Kagome lies unconscious.
