The North Yorkshire Moors are a plateau of moorland bounded by the Hambleton and Cleveland Hills on the west and the North Sea on the east.
The Esk catchment in the north and the upper tributaries of the Derwent catchment on the south are the two main area on the Yorkshire Moors.
The North Yorkshire woodlands are a mixture of oak, ash, birch and rowan which all thrive with rich wildlife.

The small village of Kilburn in North Yorkshire is known for two reasons: the White Horse, and the Mouseman.
The White Horse is a figure cut into the hillside to the north of the village, and visible for many miles around on a clear day.
The Mouseman is the trade-name of Robert Thompson, who manufactures furniture in English oak mainly for church use.

Kilburn is a small village which nestles underneath Sutton Bank on the edge of the North York Moors.
The village is famous for the White Horse of Kilburn (cut into the side of Sutton Bank overlooking the village) and also Robert Thompson, the craftsman who was known from his carved mouse trademark as the "Mouseman of Kilburn".

Head north along this ancient path, through Boltby forest, up a long gentle slope to the cross-roads at the Kepwick-Hawnby road and then to the ruins of Limekiln House.
The path keeps to the north of these stones and as you descend towards the rough Hutton Gate - Percy Cross Rigg road keep to the south of a small clump of firs.
When you reach Filey's north cliff there is a route down through the rocks to the Brigg but be careful, accidents can happen, especially in wet weather.

Whilst staying with the Smith family, at High Kilburn, their son Norman arrived from the beaches of Dunkirk.
The Smith families graves are in the churchyard, and a commemorative plaque for Norman, stands behind the ‘Mouse Factory’ (Mouseman of Kilburn furniture) where he used to work.
