Kilkeel is the principle town in the Kingdom of Mourne.
Near Kilkeel are two interesting earthen forts or 'duns', at Dunavan and Dunavil and to the east of the town is a fine cromleac that is known locally as the Crawtree Stone.
Kilkeel is the anglicised version of the Gaelic “Cill Choal” which translated is thought to mean “The Church of the Narrow Way” and its location on an elevated site would confirm this.
