  Killian documents - dKosopedia
The memos, supposedly written in 1972 and 1973, were obtained by CBS News producer Mary Mapes and Michael Smith, a freelance journalist from Texas who was collaborating with Mapes, from Lt. Col.
On September 10, a CBS memo reiterated the company's confidence in the authenticity of the documents, which it said were "backed up not only by independent handwriting and forensic document experts but by sources familiar with their content" and insisted that no internal investigation would take place.
Two blogs argued that the Killian memos display kerning, a sophisticated character spacing that is ubiquitous with word-processing documents and uncommon in typewriters in 1972.

Indeed, (and despite the statements of the talking heads on television) the Killian memos have never been shown to be forgeries, and the only reason that CBS retracted its story was because it found out that the source of the documents had lied about where they originated.

Between September 2004 and December 2005, I examined the "Killian Memos" twice.
In brief, the memos are almost certainly typed.
If they are not authentic, Killian did not write them, so if they are not authentic, they should not be called "Killian memos." Since I have seen no evidence proving they are authentic, I believe this name is misleading.

Now, some people have noted that the poor quality of the memos made font identification a little problematic, but that hasn't stopped some supposed typography experts from proclaiming firmly that the CYA memo was morally, ethic'lly, spiritually, physically, positively, absolutely, undeniably and reliably created with Word Times New Roman.
Also if the memos were created at a law firm, that might explain where they came from -- the memos that Killian's secretary had type up and kept on base were all evidently trashed or destroyed at some point.
