The origins of Kevin Rowland's pre-Dexys band The Killjoys are, typical this, shrouded in mystery.
Amid tension in the band (none of the Killjoys members have anything good to say about working with Kevin Rowland) guitarist Keith Rimell lost his temper at a rehearsal session and announced he was leaving The Killjoys.
Another interesting point about the end of the Killjoys was that they were managed by Dave Corke of Endale Enterprises in a partnership with John Tully manager of Barbarellas, The Killjoys regular Birmingham gig.

From the time I joined, I realized that being a Killjoy was going to be a decidedly different experience from my previous bands in more ways than one.
In The Killjoys, however, I joined the band understanding that band management would be handled in other quarters.
Even worse, the terms of the deal that were sold to the players were not the terms the players received opening week, which drove me to strongly criticize management and paved the way for me to leave The Killjoys after the fourth show of the residency.

Buy The Killjoys - Stealing Horses
A time when a band like The Killjoys could get a stack of airplay despite the fact that they weren't managed by the right people, seen at the right places, or wearing the right clothes.
The Killjoys are built of such an organic and convincing personality that, though for some of us it's intrinsically linked with that time "when we first heard them on the radio" (ah, Rebecca's Emipre, oh, The Sundays), it's like a trend-impervious bubble of purity.
So, despite the fact that it's taken The Killjoys seven years to release their fifth album, Stealing Horses is a time capsule that sounds like nothing except The Killjoys.

Because yet again the perennial Christmas killjoys are popping up around the country slapping bans on traditions wherever they fancy on anything from Christmas lights to use of the word Christmas and even tinsel displays.
