Killology, a term coined by Grossman in 1998, is the scholarly study of killing.
In response to a network executive who admitted their program "NYPD Blue" was full of mature content and violence, but suggested that it isn't harmful to children because it airs only once a week, Grossman countered it has the same effect as someone beating his wife in front of the children only once a week.
Grossman is lending his expertise in the field of Killology to Jack Thompson and his team of lawyers in a developing lawsuit against media production companies Time Warner and id Software.

Frankly, a couple of weeks ago, I didn't even know what "Killology" was.
However, David Grossman, retired Lieutenant Colonel in the U.S. Army, is a professor of this subject at Arkansas State University, Jonesboro, U.S.A. "Killology" is the study of the psychology of killing, a matter of obvious interest to those responsible for the armed forces.
A little known fact, of much concern to generals, is that without special training, the typical soldier, who may well be willing to sacrifice his life for his country in battle, is generally revolted by the idea of killing a fellow human being.

That was the March 24 schoolyard shooting deaths of four girls and a teacher.
