 Submarine Hunting
But, as submarines usually move at a much slower speeds than warships in order to remain quiet, the warship is in a better position to execute a manoeuvre of this kind and also find the submarine — the possible position of which is marked by a red circle on this drawing.
Submarine hunting is a very complex operation and requires a large number of assets with a very quick reaction time.
With the advent of nuclear submarines this threat grew in intensity, because such boats are capable of hunting down all of enemy’s merchant traffic directly in front of the coast, and only limited by amount of food and weapons they carry.

Submarine rescue is an area of major concern for the Indian Navy and is part of staff duty at the naval headquarters, but it is presently facing a roadblock due to sanctions following the Pokhran II nuclear blasts, sources said.
The fact that submarine rescue is part of staff duty at the headquarters shows "how much the navy is aware of the disastrous consequences if a submarine faces such a crisis," argued naval officers.

Russian Kilo Class Submarine by Gene Kozicki (Trumpeter 1/144)
The Kilo class attack submarine is a workhorse type of submarine that is often overlooked in favor of the sexier nuclear ballistic missile and fast attack subs made popular in the movies.
The basic design of the Kilo class is sound, and though not the most glamorous ship, is actually quite effective, being one of the quieter diesel-electric submarines currently in use.
Looking at several photos of different Kilo class submarines, the location and sizes of the real vents seem to vary from ship to ship, so I guess Trumpeter made a decision to place them based on the references they had access to.
