One of Judge Wood's most famous decisions was sentencing Michael Milken, known as "The Junk Bond King", in 1990 to ten years in prison; the sentence was reduced to two years imprisonment and three years probation in 1991.
Like Clinton's previous nominee, Zoe Baird, Wood had hired an illegal immigrant as a nanny; although, unlike Baird, she had paid the required taxes on the employee and had broken no laws, the threat of a repetition of the same controversy ultimately led to a withdrawal of the nomination.
Kimba Wood is presently married to Wall Street financier Frank E. Richardson 3rd, whom she wed in 1996.

Profile of Kim M. Wood '69
She handles about 400 new cases every year, ranging from cases requiring analysis of the competitive dynamics of entire industries, to those requiring her to decide whether one design for a pair of sneakers "knocks off" another company’s design.
In the course of ruling that the acquisition did not violate antitrust laws, Wood was called upon to analyze in depth the pricing structure and other competitive features of the cereal industry.
Of her transition from private practice, the judge reflects: "I had to go through a process of learning not to form conclusions as quickly as I had as a litigator, in an attempt to become a truly neutral, fair judge." Wood has demonstrated this achievement on the bench, where she is perceived as completely evenhanded.

kimba soon became a term of endearment to me which only my good good friends were allowed to call me by.

Wood wrote, "A coup may be the only means by which political change can be effected." In 1989, she upheld the right of a 76-year-old New York judge to seek reappointment even though he had passed the passed the state's mandatory retirement age.

Wood, the second nominee for attorney general, there wasn't even a hint that she had done anything illegal.
To some, perhaps it may not appear right that she engaged in a legal and normal economic transaction with an "illegal alien," but it was a transaction in which the parents, the babysitter, and the children each gained from the exchange.
While the Zoe Bairds and Kimba Woods of the world often spend more than this, most low- and middle-income families are below the limit.

As Judge Wood explained, this argument is without merit because the POMS' definition of required rent specifically contradicts the plaintiff's contention.
