Kincsem (Hungarian for "my treasure") was a highly successful race horse born in the Kingdom of Hungary in 1874 to parents Wathernymph and Cambuscan.
Kincsem had an encouraging pedigree: Cambuscan, second in the 1864 St.
Kincsem had her fiftieth victory in Frankfurt the next year.

Kincsem's dam was Waternymph (1860), a daughter of Cotswold, a grandson of Sir Hercules.
Kincsem captured the Austrian Derby and the Kaiserpreis (Emperor's Prize) in Vienna, and in Germany Kincsem took the Grosser Preis von Hanover and the Grosser Preis von Baden (3200 meters, by three lengths).
Kincsem raced three more times that autumn, walking over for a stakes in Sopron, walking over for another race in Budapest, and ending her glorious career in the Hungarian Autumn Oaks, winning this event for the third straight time while carrying 28 pounds more than the rest of the field.

Whenever Kincsem spotted the wagon she was to travel in, she would whinny and walk in and lie down, but not before Frankie and her cat joined her.
Kincsem won her first race at the odds of 1/3 and her other victories odds varied between 2 to 1 on, and 1/20.

This bronze sculpture of Kincsem by Bonheur is unusual in that it is normally found with a jockey up and rarely encountered as just a portrait of just the mare alone.

After finishing one of their best races of the regatta, coming from well back to take first place in the second race, KINCSEM was on her way back to the Historic Seaport when she was struck by a rental powerboat in the area of the shrouds.
Nobody on KINCSEM was hurt, but the powerboat driver was injured.
The KINCSEM crew hacksawed off the rest of the shrouds and the mast went to the bottom.

ON AUGUST 7, 1955, a Thoroughbred in Puerto Rico named Camarero made history when he won his 55th consecutive race to break the mark held by the 19th-century Hungarian mare Kincsem.
Coll-Vidal had come close to Kincsem's record with two other horses, Cofres' and Condado, who won 49 and 44 consecutive races, respectively.
The entire country waited to see when he would race again, and the interest was covered in the New York Times.
