THE PROCESS OF KINDLING AND THE STUDY OF EPILEPTOGENIC PHENOMENA WITHIN THE LIMBIC SYSTEM
Kindling is the process by which epileptiform activity, perceived as an afterdischarge (AD), can be elicited by applying electrical or chemical stimulation to structures of the brain (Racine & McIntyre, 1986).
Goddard (1967) first demonstrated that kindling of subcortical areas, at low intensity (50 uamp) and dispersed intervals, produced an increase in the susceptibility to stimulation-induced seizures by decreasing the "convulsive threshold" (Goddard,1967,1020).
Kindling experiments investigating these considerations have focused on further definition of the unique specializations in distinct regions of limbic structures, particularly within the amygdala and the hippocampus.

KINDLING EFFECT   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-09-21)
While kindling was originally thought to be a model of epilepsy, John Gaito of York University has reported that a different mechanism is apparently involved since the amino acid, taurine, which suppresses epileptic seizures in laboratory animals, does not prevent phenomena caused by kindling.
The kindling mechanism is a far more general mechanism than epilepsy researchers have realized.
When sufficient kindling occurs to reach the threshold, automatic orthogonal rotation of the kindled bioenergy occurs into the next frame.

 kindling theory
Kindling Theory is the idea that one episode of unstable mood paves the way for more frequent and more severe episodes in the furture.
Kindling theory originally was related to epilepsy and the idea that seizures got more severe and frequent over time, and then observation seemed to indicate it was also a feature of Bipolar.
At this time, the only way I see to prove or disprove this fascinating theory is a large (very large) and very long study that follows a group of Bipolars for many years to see the outcome.

 Why is the kindling important?
Four issues of the kindling, a combination of news and satire about life and people at the high school, were published anonymously by a group of seniors and distributed to students at DHS.
Take the board’s policy against speech that is "biased, prejudiced, vulgar, profane, and unsuitable for immature audiences." That policy seems too broad to be of much help, but Griffith doesn’t even say that it does not appear in the parent-student handbook, which serves as the students’ guide to conduct and discipline.
According to his column, he would punish students for "inappropriate" materials, and according to his memoranda to staff, he would do the same for "unsavory," "tasteless," "cruel," and "other unacceptable material." The arbiter of what is "tasteless" would no doubt be Griffith himself, at least until the school board could act.

Kindling The Lights Of Our Souls | Chabad.org
The sidra of this week, Behaalotecha, "when you will kindle the lights," begins with the precept that Moshe was commanded to teach Aharon the Kohain, namely, to kindle the lights of the Menorah (candelabrum) in the Mishkan (desert sanctuary) and in the Beit Hamikdash (Jerusalem sanctuary).
It was not sufficient for Aharon merely to apply the flame to the wicks; it was an integral part of the mitzvah for him to continue holding the kindling flame to the new wick until it "caught" properly and the newly-kindled flame was flickering upwards on its own.
It is also our responsibility to kindle the neshamah-light of every Jew we can possibly reach who for various reasons might still be "in the dark," whose soul might not yet be shining as a neshamah should.

 Kindling the Fire CD Reviews
The duo's new Woodpecker CD "Kindling the Fire," is a rootsy, warmhearted delight, rambling amiably from traditional gems to their own eloquent, timeless songs.
Yet it took the fiddler-singer a dozen years and thousands of miles to achieve musical equality with the man who eventually would become her husband.
One of the old-time folk music gems of the year, ``Kindling the Fire'' is a stylistic advance over their previous CD, 2001's ``Great Sad River.'' On ``Kindling,'' Andersen's fiddling is as soulful as it is inventive, and her own songs dovetail gracefully with traditional material.

Kindling is also a project that some listeners may find too smooth around the edges, the vocal harmonies treated to a kind of dry, too-hip studio reverb and the instruments themselves occasionally sounding more like a greeting card than a reading from the good book of bluegrass.
