CHRISTOPHER MARLOWE - LoveToKnow Article on CHRISTOPHER MARLOWE   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-18)
(1564-1593), English dramatist, the father of English tragedy, and instaurator of dramatic blank verse, the eldest son of a shoemaker at Canterbury, was born in that city on the 6th of February 1564.
The dramatist received the rudiments of his education at the Kings School, Canterbury, which he entered at Michaelmas 1578, and where he had as his fellow-pupils Richard Boyle, afterwards known as the great earl of Cork, and Will Lyly, the brother of the dramatist.
The scene of the kings deposition at Kenilworth is almost as much finer in tragic effect and poetic quality as it is shorter and less elaborate than the corresponding scene in Shakespeares King Richard II.

Situated in an urban environment in the historic town of Canterbury in Kent, King's School was originally established in 597AD, making it Britain's oldest school.

King's School is also considering installing the award winning Scalewatcher ENiGMA Olympic unit on its swimming pools, which dramatically reduces chemical usage, providing payback in just 18 months.

 Heritage at Kings School Canterbury
Clear, uncluttered screens and ease of use satisfied the needs of school librarians who were looking for an automated system that would make their lives easier without the need for an IT background or extensive training.
It is all too tempting for schools to employ temporary data entry staff specifically to catalogue the whole library stock, resulting in errors and inconsistency in the data which the librarian has to revisit and correct at a later date.
The smooth implementation of Heritage into King’s School is a success story that has positioned the library at the centre of school life.

 Marlowe and Nicholas Faunt
As a scholarship student at King's School the previous decade, Faunt resided in room 6 with another Fellow, named Harris (see graphic at left).
Given the exact parallels between young Marlowe and Nicholas Faunt in home, school and employment, we can be certain the two young men were friends and that Faunt, a few years older the Marlowe, would, as Charles Nicholl has suggested, have been Marlowe's "entree" into this covert realm of English diplomacy.
So scholars need not wonder as to where Marlowe was headed in 1587 when the Privy Council demanded his MA from Corpus Christi, certifying that young Marlowe had been engaged upon affairs "about which" the Dons "were ignorant" and had proven himself a trustworthy agent of Her Majesty's secret service.
