George II, king of Great Britain and Ireland. The Columbia Encyclopedia, Sixth Edition. 2001-05
(George Augustus), 1683–1760, king of Great Britain and Ireland (1727–60), son and successor of George I. Though devoted to Hanover, of which he was elector, George was more active in the English government than his father had been.
However, just as George had quarreled with his father over personal matters, so Frederick Louis, prince of Wales, was strongly at odds with the king and became nominal head of the opposition group that ousted Walpole in 1742.
George was succeeded by his grandson George III.

His thesis, too often set forth in assertions rather than as sustained argument, is that George II was a better man--and perhaps a better king--than his contemporaries and posterity have allowed.
His most obvious fault as King of England was his devotion to Hanover, although as he was born and spent his first thirty years in the electorate, such devotion is perfectly understandable, even excusable (215).
In truth, George II was probably no better a father to his son, Frederick, Prince of Wales, than his father was to him.
