Huijong of Goryeo was the 21st king (AD 1204 - 1211) of the Korean Goryeo kingdom and the only son of King Sinjong.
Huijong grew truly hostile towards them after Chungsu forced the Crown Princess to abdicate so that he could replace her with his daughter.
Huijong was forced to beg for forgiveness and ironically humble himself before one of his own subjects, which only made him hungrier for revenge.

King Sinjong of Goryeo was the 20th king of the Korean Goryeo Dynasty.
Fifth son of king Injong, Sinjong took the throne after his brother King Myeongjong was sent into exile by Choi Chungheon (최충헌).
King Sinjong also witnessed the kin strife of the Choi family and soon after became ill, abdicating* in favor of his son Huijong.

In 1105 (King Sukjong's 10th year), the Goryeo court abolished the name Takna which had to this time been used and from that year on, the island was known as "Tamna-gun" (district) and Goryeo officials were sent to handle the affairs of the island.
In 1121 during Huijong's reign, Tamna was renamed Jeju and the posts of Busa and Pangwan were established on the island.
The Yuan (Mongol) dynasty, in 1273 during the reign of Goryeo's King Wonjong, established a Daruhachi or military governor on the island and this was to last almost one hundred years with the island almost completely under the control of these governors.

Heijong of Korea was the king of Korea from 1204-1211 AD and the only son of his predecessor King Sinjong.
King Heuijong at the time merely disliked the Che brothers but grew truly hostile towards them when Chongsoo forced the Crown Princess to abdicate so that he could replace her with his daughter.
When King Sinjong fell ill in 1204, he stepped down from the throne to let his son Heuijong be king.

It is said that Hyeondeungsa Temple was built to commemorate an Indian monk, Maraami from India in King Beopheung, the 23rd King of the Silla Dynasty(A.D.514-539).
Later, Hamheodaesa(the Buddhist saint Hamheo) repaired it on April, the 11th year of King Taejong in the Joseon Dynasty but it was destructed by fire on the 29th year of King Sunjo(1829).
Again, Choi Yun, a monk Won Bin and others repaired Bogwangjeon Hall, Geukrakjeon Hall and Yosache and on 1984, a monk Chunghyeon rebuilt Geukrakjeon Hall and Bogwangjeon Hall, which are the current view of Hyeondeungsa Temple.

It is believed to have been built by Buddhist monk Manyeon in the 4th year of king Huijong of the Goryeo Dynasty(1208).
When Manyeon completed his meditation in Wonhyosa Temple in Mt. Mudeung and returned to Songgwangsa Temple in Mt. Jogyesan, he was so tired, sat down halfway of Mt. Manyeonsan, and suddenly went to sleep.
