King Kong (2005) Movie Review | Peter Jackson | Naomi Watts | Adrian Brody | Jack Black | Bad Movies | Cinema de Merde
This film makes a point of avoiding that big first reveal of Kong, letting him appear in an understated way, and the effect is to spread that “wow” feeling at looking at him all throughout the movie, rather than blowing it all on the first shot.
Where this movie is completely different is that this Kong is completely expressive [yes, we can argue that the 1933 Kong was expressive, but even so there’s no comparison to the range of facial expression here].
KING KONG [1976] is pure cheese, but still kind of cool and can offer comparing / contrasting fun with this one.

Movie Review for King Kong (2005)
King Kong's not pulling any punches, and Jackson’s film is almost surprisingly brutal in the way people are smashed, shaken, shot, impaled, and in many cases eaten.
King Kong has the opposite problem, and the movie’s most ambitious scenes are consistently plagued by flesh and blood, humans who don't mesh into the beautifully constructed backgrounds behind them.
What makes these little effects flaws all the more frustrating is that the movie’s computer generated creatures are actually quite spectacular (Kong in particular, look into his eyes, he has a soul) on their own, it’s only that the actors interacting with them don’t always look as though they’re standing on the same planet.

 KING KONG 2005 movie review

Kong himself looks fantastic and extremely real and it seems the CGI/SFX was pushed to the limit with one of the highlights being the ferocious but incredible battle where Kong takes on the T-rex’s.
The movie got straight to the point and there was no messing around but with Peter Jackson’s talent, a straight scene for scene re-make was never on the cards but instead he decided to give all the characters including Kong dimension and depth.
As a consequence Peter Jackson’s King Kong qualifies only as a good movie instead of an exceptional one, which is a shame because a lot of blood, sweat and tears has gone into this picture.
