Saud Ibn Abdul Aziz Ibn Abdul Rahman Ibn Faisal Al Saud was born in the city of Kuwait in 1902, the same year in which his father King Abdul Aziz recaptured the city of Riyadh from Al Rasheed.
King Saud University, the Kingdom's first, and King Abdul Aziz Military Academy in Riyadh, also the country's first, were established during his era.
King Saud's rule continued until the second of November 1964 (1383 H), when Crown Prince Faisal Ibn Abdul Aziz was appointed King.

 SMOKING HABITS OF KING SAUD UNIVERSITY STUDENTS IN ABHA, SAUDI ARABIA
Background: The aim of this study was to estimate the prevalence of smoking among university students of King Saud University in Abha City, to determine ecological factors for the problem, and to assess the students' knowledge about the health effects of smoking, and attitudes towards public action against smoking.
Materials and Methods: All medical students at the university College of Medicine (MC) (n=202), and a representative sample of students of the College of Education (CE) (n=300), were subjected to a modified Arabic version of the World Health Organization standard questionnaire for young people to study their knowledge, attitudes and practices of smoking.
In this study, the prevalence rates of regular smoking among male university students of both the College of Education (CE) and the Medical College (MC) at the Abha branch of King Saud University are 17.5% and 13.6%, respectively, with a higher prevalence among students of the CE.

The King Saud University (PO Box 2454, Riyadh 11451), founded in 1957 (1376/77 AH) as the Riyadh University and renamed in 1982 (1402/03 AH), had more than 2,600 teachers and more than 45,000 students in 2000/2001.
As one of the first institutions of higher education in Saudi Arabia, it has on its register more than a quarter of all the Kingdom's university level students (male and female) and more than one-third of all the Kingdom's university and administrative staff.

 Abdullah OKs King Saud Health University
RIYADH, 17 March 2005 — Crown Prince Abdullah yesterday approved plans to transform the academy of health sciences at King Abdul Aziz Medical City in Riyadh into a full-fledged university of health to be named after King Saud.
This was announced by Dr. Abdullah Al-Rabeeah, director general of health affairs at the National Guard, during the inauguration by the crown prince of a number of health projects at the medical city.
The total cost of the new projects is estimated at SR230 million, said Dr. Al-Rabeeah, adding that they were designed to meet the increasing demand for treatment in diabetes, maternity, pediatrics, oncology and cardiology.

RIYADH, 8 June 2005 — King Saud University has set up a major videoconferencing facility as part of its distance-learning program that not only beams lectures into classrooms across six girls’ campuses in Riyadh but also to 20 different locations of KSU colleges in Riyadh, Qassim and Abha.
Ahmad Youssef of First Video Communication (FVC), a videoconferencing firm, said the demand for girls’ education and human resources development, together with security concerns, have led to a 40 percent annual growth rate for the Kingdom’s videoconferencing market as against the world average of 30 percent annually.
Referring to KSU’s distance-learning program for girls, Youssef said it has proved to be a valuable tool that makes it possible for classrooms in far-flung areas to be interconnected to a nodal point on the main campus from where experienced teachers deliver lectures for the benefit of girls.
