Flinders Street is a notable street in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia.
Running roughly parallel to the Yarra River, Flinders Street forms the southern edge of the Hoddle Grid;it is exactly one mile in length and one and half chains in width.
The street is home to Flinders Street Station, the central station in Melbourne's suburban rail network.

Melbourne was founded on 10 May 1835 by a group of free settlers led by John Batman and John Pascoe Fawkner, unlike some of Australia's capital cities which were founded as penal colonies (Adelaide and Perth are other notable exceptions).
Melbourne is built on the land of the Kulin nation, the original Aboriginal inhabitants of the area.
King Street, on the southern side of the CBD, was traditionally a nightclub strip and still hosts several, but many are now exotic dancing venues (a final note on this topic, small brothels are legal in Victoria and are found discreetly dotted throughout the suburbs).

The residential component of West Melbourne, however, was mostly displaced by expanding industry on the edge of the central city area, although several row houses and individual dwellings were identified in a conservation study in 1983 as being of significance.

Demolition work on one of Melbourne's worst eyesores is now underway, with the Minister for Major Projects, John Lenders, today taking an industrial saw to the Flinders Street overpass.
Acting Lord Mayor Gary Singer said the removal of the Flinders Street overpass was the next important phase in reconnecting the city with its river.
Street closures are planned for June 4 and 5, July 16 and 17 and August 27 and 28.

In 1905, he rented 'Daneida' in Shipley Street, South Yarra, and in November held a 'Private Exhibition of Pictures' managed by his wife, Annie, in his studio and three of the rooms of the house.
He departed England aboard the Bremen on 6 October 1907, and was to arrive in Melbourne on 18 November, He broke his journey and disembarked in Adelaide, and travelled the remainder of his journey by train.

A helpfull booklet was on hand for things to do in melbourne, as well as all the local beaches, bars, and trips that where available, including car hire companys, they made my stay very easy and i felt i didnt miss out on anything, including sports events, firework shows, and all the festivals from jan-may.
This is my third summer at the connection hostel, and compared to some hostels and yha's ive stayed at i rate this one very highly.
I timed it as a 15 minute walk from Elizabeth Street, and that is past the dodgy strip bars on King Street.
