Goryeo or Koryŏ (고려 (高麗) in Korean) was the name of Korea during the Goryeo Dynasty, which lasted from the fall of Silla in 935 until the founding of the Joseon Dynasty in 1394.
In 1231, Mongolians invaded Goryeo and the throne moved to Ganghwado, an island in Bay of Gyonggi, in 1232.
King U put general Yi_Seonggye (later Taejo) in charge, but he stopped at the border and rebelled.

Jeong Dojeon was a major opponent of Buddhism at the end of the Goryeo period.
Using Cheng-Zhu Neo-Confucian philosophy as the basis of his anti-Buddhist polemic, he criticized Buddhism in a number of treatises as being corrupt in its practices, and nihilistic and antinomian in its doctrines.
It was largely on this basis that he legitimized the overthrow of the Goryeo dynasty, arguing that the Goryeo rulers had given up their right to rule.
