Reeling: the Movie Review Show's review of King of the Corner
Peter Riegert’s likeability is a key factor in making me want to embrace “King of the Corner.” The actor was one of the key players as one of the rowdy frat boys in “Animal House” and was key among the many reasons that “Local Hero” is still one of my all-time favorite films.
Peter Riegert's immense likability factor does much to carry "King of the Corner, just as it must be responsible for attracting such an intriguing ensemble, but Riegert's directorial debut is a clunky affair of amateurish, ploddingly edited visuals and suspect story lines which weaken it almost beyond repair.
"King of the Corner" has its heart in the right place and has obviously engendered good will from the artistic community, but the film is neither insightful nor funny enough.

 Review: `King Lear'
Briefly, the story details King Lear's misapprehension of his one daughter's devotion causing him to divide his kingdom between the remaining two daughters who have feigned their love.
However, Yulin establishes a more secure and believable identity during the second half of the play in which a poignant and desperate quality enhances his performance.

'King of the Corner' - MOVIE REVIEW - Los Angeles Times - calendarlive.com
With "King of the Corner," Peter Riegert, an accomplished portrayer of seemingly ordinary men, has created a perfect fit for himself and a raft of other fine actors.
What Leo cannot escape is the impact of his father's mortality, and "King of the Corner" reveals how Sol's dwindling life span starts nudging Leo into self-discovery, into a growing awareness of how little he knows of what he wants out of life or how to get it.
The trajectory of Leo's late-blooming assertiveness is a bit of a stretch, but no matter, for in its delightfully low-key manner "King of the Corner" has made its point that decent people who live a life without much reflection do so at their peril.

The "how-do-you-dos" barely out of the way, Harris Yulin, he of the haggard face and the piercing blue eyes, starts talking about his baseball cap with its logo of a Texas longhorn and the salmon-colored shirt he's wearing.
Yulin, hardly the most loquacious person, would obviously prefer that strangers hear his voice spouting the words of others - say Henrik Ibsen's.
Also as a young man, Yulin flirted with architecture - "I'm still interested in that." Mulling over his options at that point in his life, Yulin says, "I remembered a pivotal experience, my bar mitzvah, and what it was like being on stage and communicating from that vantage point.

SPLICEDwire | "Rush Hour 2" review (2001) Brett Ratner, Jackie Chan, Chris Tucker, Zhang Ziyi, Don Cheadle
When a high-concept action-comedy becomes a hit despite slapdash scripting and single joke themes weaved into an emaciated plot, the ball starts rolling toward the inevitable: An even lamer sequel.
Thus was born the half-baked, ham-fisted "Rush Hour 2," another odd-couple buddy cop picture pairing Hong Kong detective Jackie Chan, king of the kung-fu action-comedy, with LAPD putz Chris Tucker, high-pitched hyperactive buffoon.
In the 1998 original set in Los Angeles, Chan and Tucker went against orders to rescue the daughter of the Chinese consul.

A deep-voiced, magisterial character actor, Yulin has often played hyper-educated characters gone awry, like the evil Doctor Berrisford in the cult pic, "Bad Dreams" (1988) and Dr. Leeds, the geneticist who clones Michael Keaton in "Multiplicity" (1996).

I absolutely loved the way in which the central metaphors worked in the film--Frost's poem "The Road Not Taken," the image of the "bad Jew" dancing around the idol while Moses is receiving the stone tablets, and the story of Leo's father playing "King of the Corner" in the swimming pool.
These sorts of symbolic connections give this movie a measure of humanity and much more depth than you would find in a typical Hollywood film.
