King and QueenCounty was formed in 1691 from lands belonging to New Kent County lying north of the Pamunkey and York rivers.
The late-seventeenth county was named in honor of the ruling monarchs, William III and Mary II, who were called to the throne n 1688.
In 1720 an upper portion of the county was taken to form part of Spotsylvania County, and again in 1727 an upper portion became part of Caroline County.
The Mattaponi and Pamunkey Rivers Association (MPRA) has actively worked with a variety of stakeholders to encourage conservation of the region's waterways, promote sustainable land use and to ensure that local values are considered in decisions affecting the environmental, economic and social fabric of communities.
Collaborating with the Alliance for the Chesapeake Bay, the National Association of counties and the Environmental Protection Agency, MPRA has successfully implemented a variety of actions to engage disenfranchised community members in a water/county-wide planning process.
Also, a preferences survey was distributed to county residents to evaluate those issues and places that are highly regarded by citizens.

And is coincidence that she appears as a headright for land in King and Queen Co VA when the will of her son, Archdale COMBS II, bequeathed 50 A. of land in King and Queen to his daughter, Ezabelle [Isabel?], neither of which are to be found?

King William then ruled alone until he died in 1702.
King and QueenCounty was formed in 1691, as was Princess Anne.
It had been 22 years since the last county was formed (Middlesex), and in that time the Virginia colonies had experienced their own civil war in Bacon's Rebellion of 1676.
King and QueenCounty operates under a traditional form of county government.
Under this form of county government, an elected Board of Supervisors acts as a legislative committee and appoints a County Administrator to act as a full time executive officer directly responsible to the Board of Supervisors to execute county functions under the direction and guidance of the Board.
In addition, the county is also served by elected constitutional officers.

The first Wine and Art Festival at Locust Grove is Saturday, June 10, from 10 am to 5 pm in central King and QueenCounty.
The King and QueenCounty Community Pride Day is held each year on the 3rd Saturday in October, which starts at the King and Queen Courthouse Green and ends at King and Queen Central High School.
