King consort - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
King consort is a title given in some monarchies to the husband of a Queen regnant.
Accordingly, the husband of the reigning female monarch became monarch, and from this the denotation "King Consort" is a consequence.
In some cases, the king thus ascended, remained king even after the death of the wife, and in some cases left the kingdom to their own heirs who were not issue of the wife in question (cf Władysław II Jagiełło of Poland, ascended as husband of Queen Jadwiga).

Prince consort - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
A prince consort, generally speaking, is the husband of a Queen regnant, unless he himself is a king.
Current examples include the Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh (husband of Queen Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom), and Prince Henrik of Denmark (husband of Queen Margrethe II of Denmark).
It is also not fully clear what would happen to the prince consort's title in the event that he were to outlive his wife, as this seems to have rarely occurred in the recorded annals of monarchy.

 Britannia: Monarchs of Britain
The early part of Henry's reign, however, saw the young king invade France, defeat Scottish forces at the Battle of Foldden Field (in which James IV of Scotland was slain), and write a treatise denouncing Martin Luther's Reformist ideals, for which the pope awarded Henry the title "Defender of the Faith".
The king moved away from the medieval idea of ruler as chief lawmaker and overseer of civil behavior, to the modern idea of ruler as the ideological icon of the state.
Reformist factions won the king's confidence and vastly benefiting from Henry's dissolution of the monasteries, as monastic lands and revenues went either to the crown or the nobility.

Like Pickett, Robert King prefaces the Gloria proper with the non-liturgical solo motet, Jubilate, O amoeni chori (Vivaldi noted in the autograph, now in Turin, how the work was to be performed either with or without this introduzione, which leads directly into the first movement of the Gloria).
King and Pickett, I think, see RV588 as a gentler work than its D major cousin, RV589, although I can't see that this is inherent in the music.Of the other pieces on the disc, the most substantial one is the virtuoso 23-minute Laudate pueri for soprano and orchestra.
As ever with King's Consort recordings, the singers marginally outshine the instrumentalists, but this is still one of the most rewarding discs in this splendid series to date.

In contrast the husband of a reigning queen is not called "King Consort"; rather, he is popularly called "Prince Consort".
There have also been a number of cases when the Queen Consort of a deceased king (the Queen Dowager or Queen Mother) had served as regent while her child, the heir to the throne, was still a minor— for example, Catherine de Medici.
Because queens consort lack an ordinal with which to distinguish between them, many historical texts and encyclopædias refer to deceased consorts by their pre-marital or maiden name or title, not by their marital royal title.

BBC - Classical Review - The Coronation of King George II, King's Consort/Robert King
By all contemporary accounts, the coronation of King George II and his Queen was a right royal mess of musical confusion with the wrong anthems being performed in the wrong places and sometimes not at all.
Despite the 'historically uninformed' use of female voices, King's forces are in fine fettle in music of peerless pomp and circumstance.
King opts for slower tempos than expected, illuminating every stately arpeggio in the opening instrumental prelude until the explosive entry of the voices.

George's relegation to a status subordinate to his wife was a glaring contradiction to prevailing contemporary social theory, yet an explanation for this occurrence is completely absent from the body of historical studies concerned with the Revolution of 1688/89 and the passage of the Act of Settlement of 1701.
Once Anne became queen, with full access to male gendered political power, George failed to share his wife's social or political status as a king consort, as his wife had shared his status as princess of Denmark before her accession, and as the wives of kings shared their husband's royal status as queen consorts.
Anne was a queen without a king, even though she had a spouse, who played the public but informal role of a loyal and obedient subject.

 SA-CD.net - Boccherini/d'Astorga: Stabat Mater - King's Consort/Robert King
The dolorous opening chords of this lovely disc emerge from absolute silence in Stereo SACD (don't worry, it is a multi-channel disc) and, throughout, the recording is unobtrusively at the service of the music.
With the exception of the lovely soprano duet, "Eia Mater", in which there is a moment of congestion, voices are as well handled and as natural sounding as the King's Consort's instruments.
If there is any slight criticism of the recording it is that the reverberation of the lower-pitched instruments detracts a little from the upper-pitch attack which the piece itself needs and, here, slightly lacks.
