 - Chapter 4
This was someone who both feared and hated the King of Sweden and Captain General of the United States.
Minutes later, Len was peering through his glasses at the map of the risers and cross-cuts.
Len knew that "Graf" translated roughly into the English "Count." It was apparent the count was not accustomed to being told to wait.

Elmore, who is black, was an all-American basketball player at the University of Maryland who went on to a 10-year ABA and NBA career with the Indiana Pacers, Kansas City Kings, Milwaukee Bucks, New Jersey Nets and New York Knicks.
In a September talk on race and sports at the University of Rhode Island, ESPN college basketball analyst Len Elmore began by speaking about the way sports has acted as a double-edged sword for African-Americans.
Elmore says URI invited him to speak on race and sports because hes commented and written quite a bit about the subject in his former role as a columnist for Sports Business Journal and his current one as a TV commentator.

Dixon has chance to cement place as Maryland's greatest
The memory of Len Bias forever floats in the rafters, a basketball god symbolizing the triumph and tragedy of Maryland basketball.
When Bias died of a cocaine overdose two days after the 1986 NBA Draft, Dixon was 8 years old and watching his parents' own addiction threaten to destroy his life.
Len Bias turned his triumph into tragedy, but Juan Dixon did the hardest thing of all.

ESPN.com - Dixon allows ghost of Len Bias finally to rest
When Bias died of a cocaine overdose after the Celtics drafted him in 1986, Dixon was an 8-year-old with a resounding resolve, often hiding his parents' drug needles as he desperately tried to save them.
There was a connection with Bias that Dixon never understood until it was time to pass Bias' school scoring record of 2,149 points, until it was time to pass Bias as the greatest player in Maryland history.
The demise of Bias started the darkest days for the Terrapins program, pushing out Lefty Driesell, bringing in the bumbling Bob Wade and starting a spiral that left Gary Williams wishing he had never taken the job of resurrecting his alma mater.

SS GB, a story of England under the Nazi leash, by Len Deighton
The story moves along in the competent Deighton fashion, finally bringing it all together with a plot to free the incarcerated English King, and smuggle British nuclear secrets to an America that is the last hope of world democracy.
Deighton's Nazis bear a more than passing resemblance to his Cold War Germans, and he glosses over the harder questions of Germany and the Nazi program.
And as in his Cold War spy stories, the characters of Deighton's book are emmeshed in a complete cynicism.

AllSports (tm) Rememberances of the Len Bias tragedy, 15 years later.
It is amazing to think back to that day, and remember people being in total shock and disbelief that Bias, an outstanding power forward from the University of Maryland, had died because of complications brought on by his taking cocaine.
I was reminded of this over the weekend, as the man who coached Bias at Maryland, Lefty Driessel, coached his Georgia State team in the second round of the NCAA tournament.
Just ask anyone who plays sports and stays away from the evils of drugs because of the lesson Len Bias taught us.

 Margo Kingston's Webdiary - smh.com.au
I know what King — who is set to announce his candidacy as an independent Liberal in Wentworth late this week - HAS to do to give himself a chance to win the seat, and it’s not a pretty thought for the likes of Abbott.
King has since endorsed Tony Kevin’s book on SIEV-X as a thoughtful read raising questions the Government was obliged to answer (see Liberal voter rumblings mean second front for Howard).
What I take from this is that if King stands as an “in-house” loyal Liberal who just happens to be standing as an independent, he could deliver the seat to Patch or to Turnbull on King preferences.
