Constantine II King Constantine II or Caustantin MacAodh (son of Aodh) succeeded to the throne on the death of his cousin Donald.
The Anglo-Saxon chronicle records that Constantine II, along with the Kings of Strathclyde and Northumbria, accepted the Saxon King Edward the Elder as overlord and King of all of Britain.
Constantine consequently allied himself with the Britons of Strathclyde and the Danes.

Strathclyde (Gaelic: Srath Chluaidh), also known as Alt Clut, the British name for Dumbarton Rock, was one of the kingdoms of the Britons in southern Scotland during the post-Roman, Early and High Medieval periods.
The so-called house of Loairn or of Moray was distantly related to the Scottish House of Alpin, its rival, and claiming descent from the eponymous founder Loarn mac Eirc.
Two members of the house were kings of Scotland: John Balliol who ruled from 1292 to 1296, and claimed the throne as great-great-great-grandson of David I of Scotland of the House of Dunkeld.

The Norse kings of Man were the dominant political force in the Irish Sea during the 9th and 10th centuries, and the similarities between Govan and the Tynwald suggest a strong Norse influence in Strathclyde at the time.
It used to be thought the Vikings disappeared from Strathclyde after their 870 incursion.
It now seems more likely that the British kings of Strathclyde — their names, contained in king-lists, remain British, not Norse — intermarried with the Manx dynasty, as the coastal rulers of Wales and Ireland are known to have done.
