Northern Portugal is seldom included in travel guidebooks, and I think this must be the reason that it is so unspoiled and tourist-free.
A few other suggestions for Portugal: I consider Viseu (north central part of the country) to be the jewel of Portugal.
In Portugal Vianna do Castelo and the area inland from it by the Lima and the Vez is excellent and I hsould love to get into the National Park.
