The Making of Avalon Hill's Kingmaker by Andrew McNeil   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-08)
KINGMAKER, the board game for adults based on the political and military activity of the English Wars of the Roses, comes on the market in the autumn of 1974.
Not only did their interest assure a far wider audience for the game, but because they were manufacturing from scratch there was an immediate opportunity to put into effect the main rule changes and modifications which had either been suggested or had made themselves apparent in the first year of the game’s existence.
Kingmaker model allowed for the interaction of two types of piece - royal pieces, who were pawns, with no movement of their own - and noble pieces, the motivated members of the factions with their entourage.

Kingmaker (board game) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Kingmaker is a board game created by Andrew McNeil.
The only historical difficulty is in some of the place-names, where non-English players may be unsure of the pronunciation.
The game makes no attempt at reproducing the historical chain of events which occurred in the Wars of the Roses; the players are free to do as they see fit, which is likely to be quite different each time Kingmaker is played.

 Parliament in Kingmaker
Kingmaker particularly demands suspending the idea that nice people don’t use each other, especially for selfish purposes.
Especially evident in the Optional Parliament, Kingmaker players enter into the assembly as something akin to old-time ward bosses and machine politicians (or maybe more accurately, as mafiosi), carrying legislators’ votes in their back pockets.
Every Kingmaker player has probably seen or experienced an instance in which Stanley absolutely needed to join the main force but was stuck on the Isle of Man, with all ships hovering on the east coast of England.

Kingmaker   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-08)
A kingmaker scenario, in a game of three or more players, is an endgame situation where a losing player, him- or herself unable to win, has the capacity to determine which playeramong others is the winner.
Because they allow the outcome of the game to be determined by a player of (presumably) inferior strategy, kingmaker scenariosare usually considered undesirable, though to some extent they may be unavoidable in strategy games.
In tournament situations, kingmaker situations can be especially corrupting, since a losing player may use this power toinfluence events beyond the scope of the game at hand.

We here at Group B Films feel that it is a criminal omission on the part of the Academy to neglect this timeless work of truth and beauty, the story of one precious little girl who dared to dream.
On the PC, early scenes from Kingmaker had apparently been edited down to a stunning, single frame -- that depicted a small rodent sporting an oversized, and very erect, phallus.
The Kingmaker crew was granted a 15 minute reprieve before we were sent home, allowing us to get about two takes of the scene (which the actors solidly nailed despite the threat of sudden shutdown).

By the time Kalvan Kingmaker has begun, Kalvan has become the Great King of the new kingdom of Hos-Hostigos, and the priests of Styphon are still trying to overthrow him and solidify their power.
Although underplayed, one of the most intriguing aspects of Kalvan Kingmaker is the power struggle within the church of Styphon between those who actually believe in the god and those who simply see the temple as a means of achieving power.
The primary goal of Kalvan Kingmaker is to allow the author and the reader to enjoy the world which H. Beam Piper created more than forty years ago.

One wonders how much of THE KINGMAKER is fiction and how much is fact described as fantasy.
