Even by 1900 the Kings County Saving Bank was recognized as monument of old Williamsburg, part of the past before the Williamsburg Bridge was built rendering Manhattan ferries obsolete.
The Kings County Savings Bank marked the end of an era when banks were operated by and for the wealthy.

The Kings County Savings Institution was chartered April 10, 1860, with business being carried on for the first seven years in the eastern part of Washington Hall, a civic building located at Bedford Avenue and South 7th Street.
On January 1, 1969, the United Mutual Savings Bank was formed by a merger of Union Square Savings Bank and the Kings County Savings Bank.

According to sign maven Walter Grutchfield, The Bank for Savings was chartered in New York State from 1819 to 1982 when they merged with the Buffalo Savings Bank and the name was changed to Goldome Bank for Savings.
The former Williamsburgh Savings Bank, complete with "h", built two of Brooklyn's most noted buildings: the downtown Williamsburgh Bank tower, now filled with dentists' offices and soon to be occupied by condos for the rich, and the domed 1875 bank building designed by George Post.
KCSB (which has a fantastic Second Empire building in Williamsburg) was founded in 1860, became United Mutual Savings Bank in 1968 and is now part of Ridgewood Savings.

Although the designer William H. Wilcox of the Brooklyn firm King & Wilcox is relatively unknown, the building is a superb example of its style, the French Second Empire.

KINGS MOUNTAIN - A bank employee was shot by a man attempting to rob the First Charter Bank's Kings Mountain branch on Gold Street this morning at 8 a.m., police said.
Kings Mountain Police officer Penny Fulton said the employee, whose name and age have not been released, was rushed to Kings Mountain Hospital where Director of Nursing Regina Gregg said the woman was in stable condition and would not be transferred to another facility.
She said the suspect fled on foot immediately after the shooting and has not been caught, and detectives remained at the bank this morning investigating the case.
