King's Cross Thameslink station is a railway station in central London, which serves the Thameslink route, currently operated by First Capital Connect.
The present Thameslink platforms on the City Widened Lines are separated only by a newer wall from the site of the Underground platforms, which may still be seen on the west side from Underground trains travelling between King's Cross St. Pancras and Farringdon.
The Thameslink platforms are linked by stairs and a 600 metre tunnel to the Piccadilly line at King's Cross St. Pancras tube station.

From Kings Cross there are two trains per hour through most of the day, taking 50 minutes non-stop to Cambridge and called the Cambridge Flyer, labelled as terminating in Cambridge or going on to Kings Lynn.

According to Vicky Hutchinson from the Department of Transport the tube trains in question on the 7th July - the 204, 216 and 311(331) left Kings Cross at 0835, 0842 and 0848 respectively.
Information provided by Chris Hudson from Thameslink Rail has shown that the 0740 had been cancelled and the 0748 did not leave Luton until 0756 arriving at KC Thameslink at 0842.
The only train the men could have travelled on which would have got them to KC Thameslink with enough time to board the tubes would be the 0725.

Fitting out of the St Pancras Midland Road 'box' - the new station to replace Kings Cross Thameslink, to make the currently bare box underneath St Pancras main line station into a station - has started, and is expected to finish not long after Eurostar services to St Pancras start next November.
Adding platform 5 will keep the MML trains out of Thameslink's way - necessary if they really are going to have 8 tph terminatiing at Bedford, as David Fairthorne suggested.
