The dates of Æðelberht’s reign are unknown beyond the fact that it overlapped at least in part with the bishopship of Sigeferth of Selsey, as Sigeferth witnessed an undated charter of Æðelberht [1] in which Æðelberht is styled Ethelbertus rex Sussaxonum.
Both state that they were written by the king, and in No. X confixi is a very unusual word for this; it means literally 'pinned together', hence here 'put together' or 'compiled'.
The early eighth century was age of enlightened kings: Ealdfrið and Eadberht of Northumbria and Ine of Wessex are examples.

Oslac witnessed an undated charter of Ealdwulf, believed to be from about 765, with his name corruptly recorded in the surviving revision as Osiai rex [1].
After the conquest of Sussex by Offa, King of Mercia, Oslac witnessed a charter of Offa, dated 772, as Oslac dux [2], with his name placed after Oswald, Osmund, and Ælfwald, suggesting that he was the most junior of the former kings.
His latest surviving charter is dated 790, and the original still exists; in it he is styled Oslac dux Suthsaxorum [3].

A University of Sussex proposal to reduce the number of academic staff in its chemistry department from 14 to seven, change the name of the department to the department of chemical biology, and abandon chemistry degree programs has invoked impassioned responses from British chemists.
The Sussex proposal is part of a strategic plan to strengthen the university's research and teaching in biosciences alongside investments in other science areas and the arts.
The proposals were put to the University of Sussex Senate, the university's academic body, on March 17 and will go to the Council, the university's governing body, on March 24.
