	Necedah, WI--Historical Overview
		In 1848 the land was "ceded" to the U.S. government and Thomas Weston and J.T. Kingston arrived in the area and, as was the custom, staked claims by "blazing" a tree on either side of the river and carving their names and date on them.
		By 1849 they had cleared six acres of land, from the base of the bluff in what is now Necedah to the waters edge near the present Necedah dam.
		Sixty-five million feet of logs were sawed annually and then shipped down the Yellow River and into the Wisconsin River before finally arriving in Galena, Illinois where most of it was sold for $11 to $12 per thousand feet.

	New Lisbon, Wisconsin
		In the late 1870's Necedah lumbermen, led by John T. Kingston, sought a railroad connection to their village and explored the possibility of building a line either to Camp Douglas and the Omaha Line or New Lisbon and the Milwaukee Road.
		In 1878 the village became the terminal point for the Wisconsin Valley Division of the Milwaukee Road and a railroad center of even greater importance than it already was.
		The school destroyed by fire was rebuilt and enlarged so it was able to accomodate the students of the normal school located there in 1916.
