Kingston class patrol vessel - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Kingston, Glace Bay, Nanaimo, Edmonton, Shawinigan, Whitehorse, Yellowknife, Goose Bay, Moncton, Saskatoon, Brandon, Summerside
While the Z-drive thrusters make the Kingston-class vessels extremely manoeuvrable (able to turn within their own shiplengths) and the engines are quite powerful and fuel-efficient, the hull shape, with a blunt stern designed for minesweeping, prevents the ship from achieving a "sprint" speed and the patrol vessels of other nations are considerably faster.
However, the Kingstons' top speed is faster than that of most mine warfare vessels and is comparable to most large non-naval sea-going vessels.

Jamaica Gleaner - Economic development and leadership - Sunday | January 12, 2003
Kingston became a great harbour city made wealthy by trade, particularly trade in slaves, sugar and supplies for plantations.
Kingston merchants, English absentee plantation owners, and the English monarchs' business in the slave trade, turned Jamaica into Britain's leading sugar colony between 1750 to the end of the century, surpassing Barbados.
One economist estimated that the average rate of economic growth of Jamaica between Emancipation in 1838 and the island wide labour riots of 1938 was zero.

Kingston began to dance as a small child, in Isadora Duncan dance camps, learning "that wonderful moving, expression from the inside." Her Aunt Louise, who was also a Duncan student, used to dance and sing to her that old song: "The hipbone's connected to the thighbone, the thighbone's connected to the kneebone,.
Kingston says that though she was always among the favored group asked to perform, she never really had faith in her ability, an attitude common among dancers.

For some, the difficulty to define the class, along with (nevertheless) the extensive discredited idea to a large extent that the United States is a country without class, reinforces the tendency not to wish to speak of her.
This agreement between the superior and lower classes does not create a connection among them, but that emphasizes the problem and the attraction of the middle-class: she is so comfortable.

To attempt to be a little more fair, Kingston says that the “use of class language is not analytically rigorous or precise,” and “the reality of economic inequality, even substantial degrees of it, does not necessarily imply the existence of classes” (2).
But Kingston bills himself as a positivist, an empiricist, and a “realist”, and as such suggests that “To be useful, class theory can’t merely define specific social divisions as consequential; it must show that these divisions correspond to the collective realities that people experience and perceive.
Kingston’s “realism” forces him to define “class” so narrowly and simplistically and one-dimensionally that he can’t help but miss the sophisticated interrelationships slipping past his near-sighted gaze.

Paul W. Kingston, (Ph.D. Columbia University, 1980) is a professor and Chair of the Department.
Kingston's recent work has been directed to the question, "Are there classes?" The Classless Society (Stanford University Press) draws on a large body of research to demonstrate that presumed 'classes' are diverse in family backgrounds, divided in their political and cultural orientations, and unconnected by common sentiments or interaction.
This critique draws a sharp distinction between class structure and inequality (a persistent reality) and insists on a realist conception of class that treats class structuration as a multidimensional variable.
