Topic: Kingswood (UK Parliament constituency)

 Reference.com/Encyclopedia/Kingswood, South Gloucestershire
Kingswood is a town in South Gloucestershire, England; it is on the eastern outskirts of Bristol (see below), on the A420 road, as this main road leaves Bristol for Oxford.
Though the town is now viewed by many as a suburb of Bristol (hence the common reference to it as Kingswood, Bristol, which is also its postal address), prior to 1974 it was in the administrative county of Gloucestershire, and Kingswood constituted an urban district within that county.
Kingswood UD was merged with Mangotsfield UD to form a larger borough of Kingswood, within Avon.

However, asked about a Glasgow rape case in January 1982, he told the press of the reason not to prosecute before informing parliament and was forced to resign.
The borough was reduced to two MPs in 1983 and O'Halloran lost out to Islington Central MP John Grant; he subsequently resigned and sat in parliament as a "Labour Independent in support of the Parliamentary Labour Party".

 Lower Kingswood Politicians Corner
The whole affair is a sorry saga and the story to date can be largely followed on my website, www.crispinbluntmp.com, but this was not a meeting that inspired confidence.
Instead of being able to make a series of constructive points, which is my usual objective when having meetings with Ministers in private on constituency issues and getting them to engage in a sensible discussion of the issues, the meeting degenerated.
Perhaps this was hardly surprising as the Minister and Director General were enormously defensive given the consequences of Ministerial policy and the Director General's control of the service.
