 Kington Castle
Adam was succeeded as lord of Kington late in the reign of Henry I by his son Roger who seems to have been a somewhat lacklustre supporter of the Empress Matilda in the civil war of King Stephen's reign (1135-54).
Adam was prominent in royal affairs in Herefordshire during the early years of King Henry II (1154-89), but in 1172 fell out so badly with the king that he was forced to flee England to Scotland, leaving his wife under the protection of the monks of Wigmore Abbey.
In 1195 Kington was probably one of the royal castles used as a base for the general assault on the territories of the Lord Rhys which saw the recapture of the Radnorshire castles of New Radnor, Cymaron, Bleddfa, Colwyn and Painscastle.

A few miles from Kington, complete with a ruined castle on a hill, is the hamlet of Stapleton.” Rickman believes that Conan Doyle may have drawn some of his inspiration for the character of the wicked Hugo Baskerville from the legend of Black Vaughan of Kington and his dog.
Black Vaughan, a lord living about five centuries ago, was supposed to have appeared in Kington market place after his death in the Wars of the Roses as a fl bull and to have devastated the church.
He said: “The ghostly hound legend is well established around Kington and stories about Conan Doyle being related to the descendants of the Baskerville family and visiting on a regular basis are firmly rooted in the area.

 Huntington Castle
untington Castle, 2½ miles south west of Kington, seems to have been founded as the direct successor of Kington Castle, although it must be realized that the earlier history of the vill or manor is somewhat obscure.
As Huntington vill was in the hands of the Crown until the 1090's it would appear likely that the first castle was constructed under the aegis of William fitz Osbern or his son, Earl Roger of Hereford.
It is of course feasible that a knight held a castle at Huntington of Adam Port's Barony of Kington.
