In 1953, the school was abandoned when Kingwood Township consolidated its one room schoolhouses.
Lowery served as a supply officer and was named as a Colonel in the New Jersey Militia during the Revolution.
He was a member of the Hunterdon County Board of Chosen Freeholders from 1791 to 1794 during which the first courthouse was built in Flemington and he also served as a US Marshal from 1791 to 1803.

The land that is now Frenchtown NJ, Kingwood Township and Alexandria Township has a history that stretches back over 2,800 years to when the Lenape and their ancestor tribes were making tools, hunting, using pottery, cooking and living on this land next to the Delaware River.
This treasure of Lenape archaeology resides now in the offices of the Kingwood Township Building that are located a few miles west of Frenchtown NJ and just north of Baptistown NJ near the intersections of Route 12 and 519 in Hunterdon County.
A report of their findings on the site is available from the Archaeological Society of New Jersey, published in 1999, Bulletin #54, written by Ian Burrow, Donald Thieme, William Liebeknecht, and Joseph Schuldenrein.

The gist of the report was that in 1752 Samuel Smith petitioned the Kingwood Meeting (Quakertown, Hunterdon County) for permission to hold regular meetings at his residence in Greenwich (now Harmony) Township.
As he was located about 20 miles from both the Kingwood and Hardwick Meetings (near Great Meadow, also in Warren County), his request was granted to hold meetings on the second Sunday of each month in 1753, and he proceeded to erect a stone building, designed to serve as both a meetinghouse and a residence.
But she continues, saying the Methodist church in Tranquility (founded in 1802 in Sussex County) built a new church on this site on the foundation of the Quaker meetinghouse, and that the new building was used for religious and educational purposes and came to be known as the Quaker Grove School.

Following the completion of the soil cleanup, the State of New Jersey bought part of the site and obtained a conservation easement on another portion of the site to incorporate these areas into the Delaware River Greenway.
The total population of Kingwood Township is approximately 3,800 people, and while there are several residences located near the site, none of the residents’ potable wells have been contaminated by the site.
EPA, in cooperation with Kingwood Township, transferred all the artifacts to the Township where they are on display.
