Anteriograde movement is achieved by the eversion of the proboscis accompanied by the caudally-directed movements of the cephalic spines, which also serve as a holdfast.
These animals are incapable of escape swimming actions when threatened, so instead rely on retraction of the vulnerable head and erection of their defensive armoury of bristles for protection.
Kinorhyncha feed primarily on diatoms [Ruppert and Barnes, 1994], and other organic material that can be found in and above the sediment.

 The Spiny-crown Worms (Phylum Kinorhyncha)
The Kinorhyncha are a smallish phylum (100 species) of marine worms.
They are recognised by the 5 or 6 rings of recurved spines on their heads and the segmented appearance of their bodies.
Kinorhyncha are not a very speciose phyla with only about 150 species currently known to science.

AN EXPLORATION OF THE RELATIONSHIPS BETWEEN NEMATOMORPHA
In a related article by Kristensen (2000), Kinorhyncha, Priapulida and Loricifera are shown to all have chitin in the procuticle, an outer covering found in some organisms.
Kinorhyncha have oral styles used to grasp microscopic food that moves to the foregut for digestion.
Kinorhyncha also have a well-developed fluid-filled pseudocoelom, which is very similar to the Priapuloid’s coelom (Kershaw, 1983).

Kinorhynchs live mostly in the muddy bottoms of shallow seas and in the sand of seacoasts.
The American zoologist Libbie H. Hyman, in her classic textbooks on the invertebrates, originally included Priapulida as a class of the aschelminths, but Priapulida are usually...

The Aschelminthes (sometimes Aeschelminthes), are an obsolete phylum of pseudocoelomate[?] and other similar animals, including as classes the Nematoda, Rotifera, Gastrotricha, Kinorhyncha, and Nematomorpha, and sometimes the Priapulida and Entoprocta.
Many of these groups are no longer considered closely related and have been promoted to phyla in their own right, and the name is now generally only used as an informal term.
