Kintai bridge is a wooden bridge of 210m in bridge length, constructed over the river Nishiki that flows Iwakuni city in Yamaguchi prefecture, and was completed firstly in 1673.
Type of this bridge is arch in order to reduce the number of pier, because the bridge which has many bridge piers in a river is easy to pour by the flood.
Also, it is supposed that the shape of arch portion in this bridge coincides with the so-called catenary curve, and the elaborate structure of this bridge is highly evaluated by the present age.

Kintai Bridge, situated along the River Iwakuni, in the province of Suo, in the present-day prefecture of Yamaguchi, is also known by the name of 'Bridge of the Brocade Sash' and owes its fame to its broad wooden arches and the strong stone pillars supporting it.
The picture space is almost entirely filled by the bridge, which occupies the centre of the print.
The print is dominated by horizontal lines - the riverbank in the foreground, the elegant and rhythmic arches of the bridge, the far bank of the river, which crosses the entire sheet, the golden strip of fog and the slope of the mountain.
